Today a friend had a post to their page about an available rescue sheltie. It was one that I know of, and have personally met. I had completely forgotten about her for a while, but when it was brought up on facebook, I just had to post her here in hopes of it helping sheltie rescue to find her her special forever home.
The shelties name is Shelley. She came from Henry county Kentucky where she was a stray. She was picked up by animal control, and turned over to rescue. At the time, she had sarcoptic mange. When she recovered, it was discovered Shelley also had sheltie skin syndrome, also known as dermatomyositis. Because she will always have scars on her face, tail, and legs due to the DM, people have contiuously passed up Shelley in favor of other shelties.
I met Shelley probably two years ago when the woman from sheltie rescue brought her to a friends agility field, along with a few other rescues. Shelley was very happy to be there (I think she would even be happy doing some performance
), and seems to like people, and got along with the other dogs at the field wonderfully. To the best of my knowledge, Shelley has been in sheltie rescue for at least 3 years. She originally came into sheltie rescue at 1.5 years old. This means Shelley has spent most of her life in rescue. She has been denied a wonderful loving forever home for so long. I think the poor dear really deserves a home of her own. I have tried several times when I have had friends looking for good companion dogs to get them to look at her, giving them sheltie rescues contact, but nothing has ever come through for her.
I have seen so many people here take special needs or elderly rescue shelties into their homes here. I know what a caring board this is. I was hoping by posting Shelley's story, someone here might have it in their heart to give Shelley the home she deserves. I have provided the contact information for sheltie rescue below, in case anyone is interested. Please pass this along to anyone who may be interested. Shelley doesn't deserve to have to spend her whole life in rescue. I think she would really like to have a home of her own this year.
