Taste of the Wild--increased urination?

We are currently in the midst of switching our dogs to TOTW, Sierra Mountain. Since we've increased the amount (both dogs are at about 50/50), Bentley has been peeing more often. It isn't excessive or anything, just increased. For example, he used to pee maybe 4 times a day, now it's more like 6 or 7.

Is this something I should be worried about? Or, is it a result of something in the food?

I know that increased protein might cause it, but it's only a little more than what he was on before (an increase of 4%).

Other than that, the transition is going well.

When Abby was eating totw she peed 6-7 times a day. Now she eats raw food and pees 3-4 times. She also drinks less water with raw food.

I never actually counted how many times these guys pee.Trapp is the king of marking every blade of grass he can!

But I do not see an increase in the amount of times they ask to go out. They do spend a great deal of time outside, both Trapp & Jasper.

No idea how many times my girls urinate in a day. They spend a lot of time during the day outside, as they love to be in their yard.

Same here. With the weather so much cooler,we have a dickens of a time getting them to even come in at night for bed. They spend at least 80-90% of the day outside. They are so lving this weather.

I'm sorry I am no help,but I just never counted~

I've never counted either but Cran has been on TOTW since he was a wee lil man. and they do love being out- they (the pups- Callie was too smart to be out in the rain) were out last night when it started to pour :wink2:

Haha, Bentley is definitely NOT a marker :smile2: He doesn't even really like to go in the backyard (fenced in). So we make a conscious effort to take him out, out front. So it's easy to count.

Before TOTW I always thought he didn't pee enough, so maybe it's a good thing.

I'll keep an eye on it, just to be safe.

I'd keep an eye on it. From what I was told from my vet, increase in urinating is either a sigh of the weather being warm (is it warm?) or can be his kidney's working harder.

I know Miko seems to be drinking a LOT more since we put him on Orijen. I mean, I fill up a big bowl of water once a day (but then, I think Miko and Koji are drinking out of it). They drink all the water.

But then, I was reading dogs should drink about 1oz per 1lb. Hmmm....read that all over the net, so not sure how true it is. If that's true, both my dogs aren't drinking enough.

BTW, Koji goes 3 times a day and Miko will go 1-2 times. That's how many times we take them out. Once in the morning. Once in the evening. Koji gets a 3rd time since he had been doing the midnight whining/peeing in the house bit.

No real answer, but I'd keep an eye on them. Could be the food is drier? My dogs drink a LOT after they wake up and after they eat. Are yours drinking throughout? Or after eating?

Hmmm...I haven't noticed excessive drinking, so it's hard to say if he's drinking more or not.

But, it has gotten a lot warmer her in the past week or so (in the 80s).

Of course, the TOTW does have more protein than CN, so I guess it could be some of that.

And now, Lexi has decided that pooping 3-4 times a day is fun :uhoh: It's time for us to cut her food back, anyways, since she put the 1 lb. on that I thought she needed.

Yeah, I'd just watch it. With the warmer weather, that could do it. Mine was more worrisome as we moved to a cooler place, the apt is always a/c'd during hotter days. It's a nice 72 year round for the boys. So, extra drinking was a concern of mine, that's why I gave those options, as that's what my vet told me. Could be anything though. lol.
