Tess here.... I gotta gripe fer yoo guyz...

So my Mom n' Dad have been spendin' the past few evenins away frum home... sumthin abowt un "aniversry" er somthin.... but I get a nervus tummy when theys gone!

Kin yoo believe, rather than just bein happy to stay home with me last night... mom starts in on how yucky my butt is.... Sheesh mom, ya know, yoo could get ur priorities straight!... I was gonna rub it off on the carpet er the cat, but I hadn't had time yet!....

So after leavin me here to go out on theys "date" and me gettin all sick... the very next night I get a unskeduled bath includin the dingleberry butt scrub of shame!... I wus so embaressed... my mean ole bruthers are still snickerin!....

Lifes just not fare...

Tess I feelz fer you. I don't have that problem yet, but my Mama always callz me Stinky Butt and it is real embarazzin. I think we need to teach theez hoomins som manners. I mean Sheesh! I think I smellz real good and mama gits mad at me when I try to share my perfoom with her. How rude!:lol::lol::winkgrin::winkgrin:
 
Katy here. Bailey never has the problems I do. I think its because he's higher up from the ground. It's SOOOO embarrasing. Bailey almost never has the but scrub, but I have to have regular checks.

It so unfair.
 
Ok, I'm going to take the fun out the thread for a moment.

In my experience, dingleberries are only a problem if there is a problem with digestion. This can come from food issues, stress or other ailments.

For me, usually it became an issue when I was introducing new food, even though I was careful to ease it in over a few weeks.

But since I've been on this one food for about 10 months, I think, not a single dingleberry.

All to say, that I wouldn't take it too lightly if it occurs regularly.

Despite your light-hearted description, it sounds like your pup is actually really stressed by you leaving her. I think this is something that you really want to get a handle on.

I have to disagree with Barb...I think it depends on the dog. If I don't keep Bentley's fur around his butt trimmed, he will get poop stuck occasionally. It's become a habit for us to keep it clean and to check it after every time he goes. He is perfectly healthy.

Lexi, on the other hand, never has them.

I would agree.

We have had Katy for a much shorter time and are still working through some issues. However she and Bailey have the same Vet recommended food. When Bailey has issues, he tends to need some additional grooming to keep the "area" clean so poop does not get stuck. It rarely happens to him.

We recently had Katy groomed with a focus on a better trimmed butt area and we still have to check her as she tends to get poop stuck and we are going to watch to see if it improves once the snow and mud disappear. She has had some resistance to the weather and the outdoor bathroom accomadations.
 
Don't get me wrong - I groom my boys for the poop chute for those "just in case" moments. And I have baby wipes on standby. Sometimes they are just going to get into something that disagrees with them.

What I was trying to say is that if your pup has fairly "regular" nasty bowel movements, there is something else going on. No dog should have dingleberries perpetually unless there is some health issue going on.
 
The only time Mya has dingle berries ( I don't think I can call it that) is when something has upsetted her stomach and her poops are so soft that it clings to her butt-fur. It's once -in-the-blue moon where a solid poopie clings to her butt.
For Sassy, I noticed that if she had a pigs ear too chew on then she had diarrea (sorry, don't have a dictionary on me). I assumed it would the salt in the product because once I stopped giving it to her then she had solid poopies.
But...yeah ...stresses can do it too.

I feelz for ya Tess....da hoomin mom wiped ma hinie last night too. It was sooo emberassing and da hoomin dad was watching too. He was watchin and makin fun of mommy...sheesh...what's wrong wid da hoomins.

Oh yes, the deadly pig's ears! I stopped given them to the boys for that reason alone. They love them, but I surely don't! :(
