The Vet Killed my Dog

OMG Ivermectin!!

unfortunately we all learn too late. :( That's what makes this forum so great because most of us have learned from the school of hard knocks. :uhoh: My Sheltie ,Jewel was also on ivermectin and I had no idea it had a toxic effect on Shelties and Collies. We depend on our vets to know what is best for our furkids and unfortunatly they are human just as we are and sometimes forget who they are treating and the effects on each breed.:cry:
 
Well it is too bad that your vet didn't know about the Ivermectin. Hopefully you are feeling a little bit better knowing that this could have been the issue. Right after I adopted my first girl last year I read on another forum about having Shelties tested for the MDR1 gene for that reason and for vets that use Ace during surgery(if I'm remembering correctly). Now that you are armed with a little more information, it will help if you get another Sheltie in the future. Hope you are having a better day!

It may not bring back your dog, but I'd sue that bastard into oblivion, just so he remembers not to do a half-assed job the next time around.
