George is WAY too interested in Gracie!

This thread makes me laugh; our first George lifted one leg and then the other and still got himself wet at times!
We are taking Gracie for spaying tomorrow and not a minute too soon, I think: she and George play all the time, but in the last day or two it seems more like foreplay as he tries to mount her and is fascinated by her "parts". She is 9 months old and we want to get her fixed before her first heat, even though people keep telling us we should let her and George mate next year and produce a litter. No doubt they would be beautiful puppies and both of them have good pedigrees, but I don't want puppies! And I don't want to try to keep them separated if she went into her first heat-way too soon and I would have a howling George and a miserable Gracie! NO WAY!
They had their first long trip from Ohio to PA (5 hours) and did well in the big crate we put in the back seat. They curled up together and slept most of the time and were very good at my mom's with all the people and commotion.
My husband kept asking me all of December what I might like for Christmas and I just pointed at Gracie and said I didn't need or want anything else! She has made my heart so happy and she is a sweet little cuddly sheltie, just what I needed and wanted. It's a bonus that she and George loved each other from the minute they met!
Happy and Blessed New Year to all the dear people on here. You helped me so much through losing little Georgie last summer with the kind words and prayers when I missed her so much.

This is how Cooper does it too, but sometime the right foot comes off the ground. Not like other dogs who life their legs to the side and look like they might just lose their balance.

This is how Everett does it; he has no male dogs to copy. We always say
"he has a token Leg lift"

Moms last female Pomm Mix would balance on her front legs to pee; we think as a puppy she developed the habit to get her short legs (and rear) out of the grass.

Mozart is a few days short of 10 wks. He also plants all 4 paws on ground when he pees but if I look down to check if he is really peeing he would lift one leg to show what he is doing!

At least, you didn't have to take the advice my uncle jokingly gave a young lady about her male dog. When she asked him how the dog knew to raise its leg, he tried to tell her he taught it to do that by lifting it up himself. Knowing my uncle, he would think it a huge joke to tell her this.

Charlie didn't start till he was a little over a year old. And he had his big brother Scout, our English Setter to watch... And boy did Charlie look up to Scout, lol....

That's a good one! I didn't realize some of them would need a "mentor" to learn this. Guess I don't need to worry at all for Mozart. For the 1st week I had him, I can't tell if he is really doing it or just standing there cuz he doesn't move his tail...he just stand nice and tall. He is really funny...now he'll always do it with all 4 on ground and lift one leg at the last few drops or lift if I look down to see if he is really doing his biz.

Found something else that's funny this week...when he has a slightly more watery poo, he would walk a few steps forward after doing his thing, sit and the grass and drag his bum on the grass to wipe. He would then move to another spot and repeat until he feel his little rear end is clean!
