Thievery and Other Misdemeanors

Forgot to mention that Max (1 year old sable) loves to steal food from us when we aren't looking, LMAO!!!!

One of our dearly departed Shelties, Taylor (tri), was a great thief! And, whenever he would steal food, he was very particular about what he stole! No onions or pickles on HIS burgers/sandwiches! Taylor's most famous act of thievery was when my husband picked up some Big Macs and on the way home with them, did an errand, leaving Taylor alone in the car with THE BAG. Taylor managed to eat both burgers by chewing out a little hole in the bag, then chewing out a hole in the containers, just enough for his snoot to get in. Never pulled the burgers outside of their containers or the bag!
 
Treader is thief too! If you leave food in the table, he will jump up there and eat it when you're not looking. We've caught him a couple of times. We have to be really careful not to leave food on the table.
Once he "stole" one of my Shepherd's treats. My Shepherd got mad at him for that.:uhoh:
I've taught both of my dogs that whichever dog gets to the treat first is the owner of the treat. Works pretty good. They have races to see who will get the treat first.:lol:
 
Cookie Thief

Every year I make and decorate hundreds of Christmas cookies. I let them dry overnight on my kitchen table after icing them on waxed paper. One night around midnight I hear a rustling sound. I wait and a few minutes later it happens again. I run into the kitchen, and there is Gavin laying besides the table with a perfectly undisturbed star cooki between his paws. His snout was covered with the decorations/sprinkles and there was a space at the very edge of the table devoid of cookies. I estimate he got 4-5 cookies :)

He had to sleep shut into my bedroom with me until cookie making was done!
 
Smoke's favorite things to steal are shoes and paper towels. He will take a paper towel over food, even -- he once snatched the paper towel out from under some potato chips I was eating. Chips went everywhere but the only thing Smoke wanted was that paper towel :wink2:

What I really enjoy and what makes it hard to scold him is how adorable and proud of himself he looks when he is prancing around the room with the stolen item in his mouth :smile2:
 
I can just picture your Smoke prancing proudly with his paper towel, Julie, LOL! Our Barkley does the same thing with kleenex. :lol: Our most famous thief was aptly named Bandit--a rescue Blue Merle we were owned by for 12 terrific years. He would steal any kind of food around...dog food, cat food, horse food, people food. One Easter he got into my daughter's Cadbury eggs that were up on a table and all that was left was shredded paper all over the room. We had a fun session with Ipecac over that one (not!!). Pixie used to steal the heaviest shoes she could find from our mud room and then try to haul them upstairs. They usually weighed nearly as much as she does so we'd hear her clunking her way along. They would usually only make it partway so the stairs would be littered with nasty barn shoes. :smile2: You're right, it is SO hard to be mad at them, they are just so pleased with their captures! :biggrin2:
 
Very Mischievious

Sadie will steal things just for the sake of stealing them.

I was trying to plant some spring bulbs this past weekend, I had them all layed out where I wanted to plant them and Sadie kept running over and stealing them! She'd pick one up and stand next to me, then when I'd notice and say "Hey!" She'd run around me, shaking it around and throwing it up in the air. Little brat! It was very cute though.

I pulled out some grass in the flower bed as well and I caught her doing the same thing. :biggrin2:

She regularly enjoys stealing clothes like socks and slippers. She thinks she is VERY a very funny girl :lol:
 
I was visiting my parents and thier two shelties. While my mom was cooking bacon for breakfast one of the dogs grabbed the uncooked bacon off the counter(mom had stepped out of the room for a minute) and all the dogs had a feast.
 
They learn young

Kiara is learning a little young. If my husband sits on the couch with his food, snack, doesn't matter it's right up on the couch and into his lap looking at what he has:eek2: :lol: But she is learning no. And she is starting to learn if she just sits on the floor and looks pretty she'll get what she wanted to begin with.:lol: Don't know where that came from, Tasha the elder.:rolleyes2:
 
Treader even stole a chicken bone out of the trashcan one night.:eek2:
Now we put our chicken bones in little plastic ziplock bags until we can put them into the outside trashcan.
