Well, I will add my thoughts.
First, in regards to a Schnauzer and Sheltie, I am not sure how this will turn out. My aunt has a Schnauzer, always has had them, I have not seen them with other dogs, so, I am not sure how they will act, hers are so gooney, LOL, they love everyone, so, they probably would love the new one, but I have known lots of them that are NOT that friendly, and may like to take a piece out of another dog, it is a hard question to answer.
If possible, could you bring the pup home for a "trial run" while you are with them? I bet you will find out pretty fast how the relationship will be.
Second, in regards to a second dog in general. Well, I have two and would NOT do it again, I feel it is too much for me, but then, I have a lot of health issues and am so nervous, their playing actually sends me to tears when I am upset over things, and the barking, dang, it is awful and nothing I do stops it, they seem to "turn off" when I tell them to be quiet. One was rough, but two, oh my. However, that being said, I do love the two I have now and would miss one if I sent it back to the breeder, but, I will not do it again.
I am with the rest, give the matter lots of thought, and if possible, try to find others in your similar situation and talk to them about it.
Hope this helps and best of luck.
