This weekend will be our first show

Callie is entered in a UKC show this weekend. She's the only pre-entered sheltie.

Her breeder trimmed her up a few weeks ago and she's starting to look a bit shaggy again. Her breeder is meeting me there tomorrow evening and fix her up a bit. I'm going to bathe her tomorrow morning and blow dry her. Fortunately it's UKC, so no hair products or chalk or anything.

She is AMAZING on the table so I hope that makes up for our silly excited one-year-old puppy gaiting. (She moves nicely when she's going naturally but sometimes she pulls on the leash and she ends up looking like a dressage horse.) We've gotten better at it, but we really need to take a good long walk before hand to get her a little more focused and less silly... and of course it's going to rain all weekend so no walks.

Any tips for getting the sillies out beforehand if we can't take a good long walk?

I know.. I tend to encourage my dogs to be silly goofballs. Neither of them is very serious about anything. :biggrin2:

Hopefully there is a judge that will think that personality is adorable.
 
Have fun with her and don't worry about the sillies. Make it a good experience for her. And good luck! Let us know how it goes!
 
Good luck in your first show. When you feel like you are out of control, try to imagine me chasing a piece of hot dog across the ring while it kept squirting out of my fingers! It had been drummed into me not to leave bait in the ring. Or the time I took my first breed over specials and the judge finally had to put her arm in front of me to stop me so she could tell me, for the 3rd time, that my little girl took the breed. She also ended up taking the group that day but piloted by my husband!

Oh gosh... the first time I won the breed, I burst into tears! (In my defense, I was only thirteen!) We got a very nice Group II that day, and I was much more composed by then. :lol:

OP, go have fun and savor the experience with your best buddy. These are memories you will treasure your whole life. (And if something not-so-treasurable happens, believe me, the time will come when you will look back and have a good laugh about it!)
 
I've only shown two times (a blue merle sheltie named Lauren and a cream pom named Natasha), that was about a month ago. I had just finished walking Lauren around the ring and the judge told me to stand behind another one of the dogs. I was totally lost, I had no clue which dog she meant, so I just went over and stood behind the last dog. She had to tell me two more times which dog she was talking about. It was SO embarrassing! Then when I showed Natasha I forgot the bait, so I had to pretend like I was eating something yummy then show it too her to make her look in the right direction. Both times I showed I forgot the brush! But like Tofu pup said, you've got to learn to laugh!:biggrin2:
 
She had a great time!

There were 5 shows. For the first three she was the only sheltie, so took best of breed. She did not place at all in group through... basically because she's a goofball and gaits with her legs flying all over! I have dubbed her the Minister of Silly Walks. But really, she just turned one year old and I'd rather have an exuberant dog that loves to work than one that's less enthusiastic.

Today her breeder brought two other shelties - her father, who is very close to his AKC GrCh (Ch Jolie Mr. Fun), and another junior female that she just got a few weeks ago. Callie got her first win with competition for best female, and her father got BOB both times (and 2nd and 4th in group). But he kinda knows what he's doing. ;)

So she has all her points and one win with competition, just needing two more wins with competition for her Ch title. I really got her more as an agility prospect so that's where our real focus lies, but this was a fun thing to do!

Here's my pretty girl standing on the grooming table. I don't do ANYTHING to those ears!
