Those that Feed Fromm

I have been rotating through the grain free Fromm varieties for about 5 months now. In about the last month or so, it hit me that I have to trim a LOT of mats out of my dogs hair. It seems like my dogs are getting mats on their pants, pits, etc. at an alarming rate recently. I asked my mom about this, as she changed foods that same time I did and she is having the same problem with her Sheltie and one of her setters coats looks extremely dull compared to how it used to look.

I was wondering what those of you that feed this food think about the coat condition of your dogs. Otherwise, it was fine, although my girls poops are a bit large then they were on TOTW and they are not as hard as they were.

I am still bummed about the Diamond aspect, as my dogs did so well on TOTW. What a shame.

I know that Fromm is a good food, I am just wondering if it may not be the right food for us.

I would love to hear others experiences with Fromm who feed it.
 
And my mom did get her setters thyroid checked, and that is fine...thank goodness.

I brush my girls a lot, it just seems that the hair is matting close to the skin, unlike before.
 
I have not noticed an increase in matting or dullness of the coat but like I have said yesterday I am having an issue with Justices weight, I don't know if its the food or him. To tell the truth I am not really happy with the weight of any of my dogs at the moment. I am thinking I need to feed more volume than I did with other brands. But than again Justice and Diva had a hard time with weight on raw too.

I fed TOTW before and had consistent on/off loose stools. None of that now.
 
I will have to weigh my dogs today and see how they are. Chloe felt really skinny about three months ago, and she was 19 lbs. I increased her a little bit and she 20 lbs, last I checked. That was before this heat hit, so I know her activity level has probably decreased.

Fromm is getting alot of hype these days because of the Diamond recall. They have truly benefitted from it. (though I note that Dog Food Analysis still rates TOTW in the 6 star category???)

I've not done an ingredient by ingredient compare, but I do wonder whether or not there is too much hype on Fromm. The fat content at 19% seems a little on the high side.

Do you find the coat dry as well? I'm considering adding salmon oil to my dog's diet.

Also, any feedback on Earthborn or Great Life? I just heard about these today and they seem to be up and coming products. I like the Great Life at 13% fat, frankly - for our tubby Shelties......I think these may deserve a look see.

But I would also like to see where these products are manufactured. To avoid another Diamond fiasco.
 
Barb all my dogs are eating Fromm and they are skinny not fat. I am realizing that the amount I feed with other brands is too low with Fromm. I actually need to feed what the bag says. Shocking! :lol:Justice has always always needed to eat around 20% fat or he lost weight. He would dry up and fly away at 13%.

I am not sure why the ingredients look good and the dogs love it. I keep you informed after somwtime on the increased amounts.

PS I have heard about Earthborn for 3 yrs tried a sample bag 2 yrs ago and the dogs did not care for it.

I have been feeding Buffy Fromm since she was a puppy. She has done great on it and has a very nice, shiny coat, always has. I think it's genetics but I am sure Fromm helps. She also has good energy and we figured out a good amount to feed her.

She gets knots in her underarms but nowhere else. But I don't think that's food. My Abigail always had knots in her ears and Buffy never gets them. I think some dogs just get knots in different places.

I'm not sure, but I'm thinking it might just take your dog a little time to adjust to the new food.

Interesting. I wonder if maybe it is the weather, more than the food?

Chloe will be 4 in September and Dandie will be 3 in November. I just don't think it is an age thing, because they both started at the same time with the mats. The only change they had is the food.

Hmm....
 
I think it's possible it's a weather thing. I'm even finding little balls of fur around my house. I don't recall that happening last year.
