Throwing up

I mentioned this in another post, but now have a question regarding Bentley being sick.

Wednesday we drove to VA and stayed at my mom's house. Bentley got into some of her stuff. Based on the evidence, it looked like he ate some cardboard and part of an old, antique leather box.

Several times in the middle of the night that night he woke up and threw up. It was mostly liquid, with a few pieces of something unidentifiable.

He has done that before, and usually "gets up" whatever it was that was upsetting him, so that morning I fed him a small breakfast. He ate it as usual (excitedly) and then threw up twice right afterwards.

We drove home yesterday and Bentley threw up 5 times in the car. Again, mostly liquid with a couple unidentifiable chunks (gross, I know).

I didn't feed him any dinner last night, and he wasn't sick at all from 8pm Thursday to 3pm Friday. I thought he was better, and gave him boiled chicken for breakfast.

He just threw up again...just a dark brown liquid.

He is acting totally normal--hungry, begging for food, chasing our neighbors' dogs, etc...

Is he sick? Or is he trying to get up the leather/etc...that he ate? At what point do we go to the vet's?

I'm sorry to hear Bentley is still not feeling well. :(

Is he pooping? Could one of the things he ate be causing an intestinal blockage? I only ask because he was fine when you didn't feed him, but once you started feeding him again, he threw up.

I don't want to scare you, but I agree with Randi that something might be blocked. The key symptom to me is being sick straight after meals, it sounds as though stuff can't get through so it is just coming straight back up. As it has been a couple of days I would get him to the vet for a thorough check over.

Fingers crossed, its not too bad.

I was thinking blockage too, but he is pooping normally. He went last night and this morning, both looked normal.

I guess it could still be a blockage...I really hope it isn't something that serious.

I'm going to feed him chicken again for dinner and see how he does. Of course it's the weekend rule (plus we don't yet have a vet here in Ohio). I'm crossing my fingers that he's able to keep the chicken down (he seemed to this morning...he ate at 9 and didn't throw up until 3, and it was just liquid).

Could be a partial blockage. Where some food is making it though ok but there isn't room for all of it. There is also the possibility that what ever he ingested didnt agree with his system making his digestive tract unhappy. A vet visit with an xray should put your mind at ease and maybe get some answers!

You are definitely right...I won't feel better until we get to the vet. But, I don't want to go unless we have to (I know that sounds bad, but since I'm jobless we really don't have any money to spare...).

I'm thinking that it's one of the two things you mentioned. Assuming it's the partial blockage (the worse of the two options) would it be safe to wait until tomorrow, or no?

I hope Bentley is feeling better. I would get him in ASAP tomorow if he is still vomiting overnight. Alot of clinic are open Sat but few sun another than emrgency clinics. However if you are really concerned get him in now.

.

He threw up again tonight, but only a little.

He ate dinner normally, and is still acting normal.

We're going to monitor him tonight and take him in tomorrow if things don't improve (as Shelli recommended).
