Throwing up??

Twice this week, Bacca has thrown up. The first time, I thought it was because he had gotten into something outside.

However, when I took him out of his crate after driving home from the cottage today, I noticed that he'd thrown up again. Obviously without alot of fuss, because we didn't even here him and he was just in the backseat.

It's possible he got into something again, but I was wondering whether it might have something to do with teething? I don't know why I think this...perhaps I read it somewhere.

I should also say that otherwise he seems quite fine. When we got home, the first thing he wanted was to be fed. And while he didn't inhale his food in 2 minutes flat, like usual, he did finish it off.
 
Wow. funny you should bring up this topic! Indy did the same out of nowhere throw up 2 nights ago! He went off to bed 9:00, after a vigorous round of playing. Now, keep in mind he had dinner at 4:00. I hear him gagging at like 11:00 and just get him out of his crate in time. Seemed fine after that and since. What's up with that? Interesting theory about the teething. I'm more than a little neurotic about throwing up as that was the first symptom Max had and a week later he was gone (7-5-08). :cry:
 
Did he throw up his food, or was it yellow-ish watery/foamy?

I personally wouldn't be concerned as long as he is acting normally, eating, drinking, playing, etc. And it doesn't happen very often. If it is yellow and foamy, that is often an indication that the stomach is empty. It will often happen during the night or before breakfast, and can be easily remedied by offering supper later in the evening or giving a small cookie before bedtime.

If he is throwing up food, then that could be a different issue. Could just be a little stomach upset that will clear on its own. But if it continues to happen, is accompanied by a change of behavior, diarrhea, or bloody vomit, then head to the vet ASAP.

GeeRome you hit the nail on the head. I would have said the same thing. Two of my three girls will puke in the car if they are feed within a couple of hours of us going somewhere. Some dogs are just more prone to being car sick and that may be why he puked in your car. I have learned not to feed the girls their full amount of food if we are going somewhere early. When we get home I will give them the rest of their food. It works - we haven't had and issue since I started doing it. Just a thought. Hope your little guy is feeling good today!
 
Its probably nothing if he's still fine otherwise. Maybe just a bit of car sickness as the others suggested

Sadie was greatly bothered by her teething, for about a week she was quiet, lethargic, sleeping a lot and not eating well. We wet her puppy food so that it wasn't so hard but her appetite still wasn't normal for a few days. Sadie's breeder said that some pups will occasionally have flue like symptoms (vomiting, diarrhea, etc.) when they're teething, much like human babies feeling sick during teething. Perhaps he's not quite himself because of his teething (though not as extreme as Sadie) which is causing him to be a bit more sensitive than he'd normally be.
 
Well, he threw up again today! All food, no watery, foam. My son had given him an afternoon snack and he apparently threw up about 1 hour later.

But when I got home at 4 p.m. he was waiting by his dish looking for more! I fed him and he inhaled it as usual (he has kibble which is softened with a little hot water)

All other behavious is fine.

I'll watch him closely tonight and see what happens.

I agree with the others...it maybe just a bit of car sickness. Pogo does that everytime we are in the car....depending on the drive it ranges from a drooling monster to massive throwing up.

He gets vomity when we go to the vet's office (which is 15 min away), empty stomach or not. I hope like the others that he'll grow out of this. Soon, I hope, I'm doing a TON more towel laundry now...:lol:
 
Barb When occuring ??

If this is occuring only after a car ride than it's car sickness. If it's occuring just at various times then I would call the vet just to be certain. Only because , I would be curious due to the fact you have lost poor Max so suddenly due to vomiting as a symptom.:confused2: For self satisfaction and comfort as well. The frequency is the biggest factor. Too much vomiting can lead to dehydration. These are all factors you must consider . Which I'm sure you are. Please keep us updated on your little furkid, Bacca.
 
Barb....it's possible he could be eating too fast since you say he's inhaling his food and throwing up an hour later. If so there are special bowls you can buy to slow him down. In the meantime you might try giving him a bland diet for a day or so...some boiled shredded chicken and white rice for instance. If it persists, I'd definitely call the vet as a precaution.
