Last evening we noticed the tip of our 5 year old spayed girl's tail has turned black. It is approximately 1 inch. We have a Vet appointment Tuesday but it seems like a long way away.
Can you gently wash or remove the black "stuff" or is it literally a skin color difference not something on the surface of her skin? If it can be gently removed it may be flea related...have you checked all over her body to see if there are any flea nests hiding under her fur?
She is on regular flea protection. We have given her a good going over a
And she is brushed regularly. It feels harder than I would think and does not rub off.

Humm...I don't have any other ideas. If she doesn't seem bothered by it and there is no visible inflammation around that area, I suspect you are safe to wait until the scheduled vet appointment on Tuesday to have it looked at. But if you are really worried that this is serious, most vets have a few spaces each day that they save for emergency appointments and you might be able to get in on one of those.
