Tips on keeping the ruff white?

Hey guys,

Does anyone have any tips on how to keep the chest area white even when they're wearing tags? The dog tags turn Indy's chest grey even one day after a bath!
How do you guys do it? Do you have a certain type of tags you use or what? I'm bound by the dog rescue contract to keep her id on her at all times :)

Thanks,
Debbie

im not sure if it works or not since my dogs dont wear collars but ive seen at petsmart a thing called tag silencer its a rubber/plastic piece that fits over tags..maybe this would help as the metal wouldnt be in contact with his fur?

Romeo doesn't wear a collar unless we are going out because it mats his hair so quickly. But Gio wears a collar all the time as his hair doesn't seem to mat. For him, I use a neat little velcro pouch that holds his tags and wraps around the collar so nothing is dangling. Prevents staining of the hair and also stops that annoying jingle.

Here are some pictures of the pouch:

There is a little product called a tag bag that you can google on the web. I think they are a little expensive because they are made out of leather. But it seems that you thread it on to the collar and put the tags into the bag. That way they don't rub together and they don't stain the ruff.

There is a lady locally that makes them, so I just bought them from her. But if you are handy with a sewing machine they are really quite simple! Just a strip of fabric about 5 inches long by 3 inches wide and a piece of velcro.

Wow pretty smart lady you know. I bet if she sold them to stores like petco and petsmarts she could make some money!!! I'll try making one. Thanks

Thanks for all the tips! I also found a website called Boomerang Tags that makes tags that fit over the collar instead of hanging down. They're made from stainless steel so they don't tarnish. I ordered a couple of ID tags for Indy and Zoe but I might have to try out that tag bag idea for their rabies tags!

Thanks again :smile2:

I have an alternative solution, if you're cheap like me

I had the same problem with Sadie and her ID tag, all of the dark paint was rubbing off and the aluminum on her other dogs were collecting dirt.

I threw out the id tag and instead got a stainless steel tag, but I'm guessing that brass will work too. Stainless steel won't tarnish or hold dirt. Brass will darken but shouldn't hold dirt either.

I then took her other tags and attached them to the handle of the leash instead. Sadie's rough has been white ever since.

GeeRome, could you possibly PM me the info for the lady who makes your tag holder? I think its a neat idea and might consider ordering a couple from her.
