Too skinny?

I was petting Rambo today and noticed that I could feel his backbone and hips!

He gets fed twice a day, according to the package directions (Iams mini chunks) and he never eats it all.

Is he just in a lanky, teenage phase? I couldn't get my lab to hold any weight until she hit about a year old, but she looks great now.

Rambo is very active too, he and the lab are constantly running and fighting with each other.

Maybe a few more treats?

Better to err on the thin side. Beckon at two is lean but not emaciated. DH keeps worrying that he's too thin, but I'm holding the line!

nope sounds about right. Six who is 15 months old is the same way..he never stops moving until I crate him...he is skinny and burns off all his food he eats. I weigh mine once a week, if he loses any I increase his food that week and go from there.

Yep, I agree. Sounds like he may be just right. I have an extremely athletic girl who is at a healthy weight. But, her hips do jut out a bit. Many vets will tell you having your dog a touch thin is much better for them than the alternative.

What about ribs? Mr food hound aka Sca is a bit overweight and I can still feel his back and hips. Of course him leaving food in the bowl is a sign of the apocalypse I think :eek2:

Thanks for the replies!

I feel better hearing that other dogs are the same. His ribs feel perfect to me... I can feel them if I try but they have a little meat over them.
