Trevor is chewing on his feet

Hey all long time no see. I was wondering if anyone knows why Trevor is nibbling on his feet. He did it last year and we took him to the vet and they gave him a shot that fixed it. I was just curious what might cause it.

Thanks!

PS, its the tops of his feet not the pad area.

if they gave him cortisone, it is probably allergies. we had a cat with allergies so bad he used to get a cortisone shot every year.

Yup, sounds like seasonal allergies. Miko does the same thing, but I think he's allergic to grass. Poor guy.

You could try a small dosage of Benadryl to see if that helps. And if it does, it's most likely allergies. Or, call your vet and ask them to look at his chart and find out what it was they gave him. Or what they felt it was.

Pixie does that too, licks the tops of her feet. My vet has me give her Claritin or Benadryl when it's really bad. He also gave us some medicated wipes that seem to help but they were expensive!

Just be careful it doesn't become a stress-busting habit, as it did for my friend's dog. I would be tempted to dress his paws in socks while the problem is getting resolved.

Mally will lick and chew his paws. For relief from the itching, we will mix some baking soda in with warm water in a bucket, stir it around and dip his feet individually in this mixture. Then towel dry. It seems to help him. (Mally has allergies)

Yeah its weird as Penny our sable sheltie seems to be unaffected. He has an appointment at the vet on Thursday. Hopefully when winter comes and things die down so will his allergies..

allergies

Pretty sure that it is allergies also. Harper Lee is a feet biter/toe chewer but only in the summer months. Even though we throw down the DE she is still affected as am I, by the no-see-ums that get me itching full force.

Best,
Kate
