Trialing outside in the rain

Yea that EO was pretty horrible but that was day One, check out the course on day 2. now this is just plain crazy (excuse the music). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tq2ilftpx-8

About the only thing alright about this is at least everyone had the same conditions, but my dogs would have never left there crates and that's a given.

Thanks for posting.,.. I knew I saw video somewhere that showed much worse conditions.... but couldnt find it. So here it is.... Its really horrible and Im ashamed that they didnt put it inside in the first place. Luckily organization of WC 2012 was much much better.

Yea I understand Its difficult to walk away when you have so much invested, My trip to the regionals this year will run around $1000 dollars and it is outdoors, if she qualify's for the nationals and I go the bill will run by my estimate 1700 to 2700 hundred for 10 days it will take to get there and to stay but at least it is indoors abet on dirt. so I can understand the temptation to go ahead. Personally I believe that any high level event really has to be indoors on dirt or better yet on turf I have run 3 events this winter on indoor turf at sports complexes, all Locally sponsored so it can be done and the sponsors are making money, nothing better in my book handler and dogs alike seem to love it. The sport really has progressed past the point of outdoor venues at the regional, national and international levels.

Are you coming to the nationals in New Brunswick this year???
I am volunteering if all goes well and my vacation goes through as planned, lol
Hopefully I will see ya there in August!!! I am going to obviously eye all the Shelties anyhow :D
I live about an hour n a half away from the venue let me know if I can help with anything!!

The problem with holding a national event on turf is finding a place that is large enough to hold the number of rings needed for a national event. That is why most national events are on dirt. Either the dirt is already there with enough arenas to handle the number of rings needed, or dirt is brought in.

I am hoping too, depends how well she does at the regionals since her injury in Sept she has only had 2 Q's out of 14 runs for a dog that has had a 50 to 70% Q rate up until now that's quit a bit off although she was running well at the events just not getting the Q's, she seems to be coming back pretty good though right now. Our practice this Saturday morning was rocking awesome, Have to see what happens at the trail coming up this weekend , right now its a toss up between renting a Minivan and staying in one of the local hotels, or renting an RV and using that for 10 days. Wife kida favors Option 1 while I am leaning towards the RV.

This is quite true.

The facility 95% of all the Pittsburgh area trials are held in is only big enough to hold 2 indoor 100' x 100' rings. National competitions require AT LEAST four - six rings, from my understanding, to finish in anything resembling a reasonable hour. Granted, there's enough land to host a national competition but remaining rings would have to be on the outdoor acreage.

We have in our City of roughly 300,000 people 3 private indoor sports facilities
all with astro turf one containes 3 full size socker fields another a full baseball diamond and another a single socker field. WE have been renting out the baseball complex for the trials this fall and winter as its the least used it has room for easily 3 100 X 100 rings and lots of room for crating we only use 1 100X100 ring. The hardest part is booking far enough in advance, they even provided a room where the organizer could keep all the equipment secure for the winter. the Lady doing this has had bi weekly seminars with guest handlers during the week and the 2 trials over the winter all have been well attended and make money for her at between 225 to 275 runs per day which is where it has been running . My son runs an indoor Football league in Toronto at a place called the Hanger, is has two complete football
fields inside it that they rent out every Sat night for 6 hours , so there are places around that could be used. Its just that Booking them far enough in advance and getting the cooperation of the owners for a DOG EVENT can be a bit problematic. also a lot of people in charge of setting up these events are not used to checking out a venue like that yet and they just go right to the agricultural arena's and venues that they have used in the past. I was actually surprised when she was able to arrange for the space but I guess they would rather have people in there with there dogs then having it empty. and not generating any money at all. Here is one of Storms runs from inside the complex as you can see its huge and we only use a fraction of it.

very cool, would love to meet you guys :D
Hopefully she can make up time and get 100% in shape for everything upcoming!! The motels have been filling up awfully fast, the ones that accept dogs, anyhow, lol... It's a bit of a rural area, gorgeous and hospitable, but not the most convenient place with most amenities you've ever been at, lol

My friend just booked her room, etc and they are giving her a fairly decent cancellation policy, so that may work for you!, Especially, if you book soon. Considering how many lovely parks, beaches and places are here to visit here in the Summer, I would lean towards option no 2, tho, for sure :D

This is awesome, because I know so many of the locaL competitors, who never go when it is out west, so to host it here is a real treat! Can't wait to see all the talents from all over :D I live in Saint John, so that's only an hour away, happy to volunteer and don't have to bring my dogs, so I will get to be a spectator and soak it all in, pressure and stress free :D
They even used local dogs for the pics and site, etc, this dog on the banner is my good friend's Chihuahua who will also be competing

THIS is what it looks like here!! And people don't see a problem running their dogs in the mud like this (although at one point I didn't either). Then again we had a trial on concrete here too. Thankfully brains kicked in and I didn't go for that!
