Unusual tips for beginners

My husband summed it up for me, when I asked him the question. He said "agility is like any hobby. It's harder the better you want to be."

Spot On! :biggrin2:

For those who have said they might not do agility/compete I would also say you never know until you try. I've done other obedience and breed showing and can honestly say that doing agility is far less stressful in my experience. I used to literally shake with nerves and pressure for these discplines, but somehow there doesn't seem to be the same opputunity with agility - beforehand you are memorising the course and how to handle it and once you are on the start line there isn't time to spare for worrying. It's so nice to feel a thrill of anticipation instead of dread! I am extremely competitive but somehow with agility it matters far more that we've had a nice round than winning anything and interestingly I'm now finding I'm starting to think this way about obedience too... :biggrin2:

So do have a go, it might be one of the best desicions you'll ever make! :wink2:

Thanks for the golf video - showed it to hubby (he pretty much sucks at golf, but loves it).

Back to agility I might give it a go next spring ( nearest place is an hour away and not drivingthat in the winter), first I want to the canine good citizen. Miss Hanna seem sto have forgotten most of her command unless treats are involved.

Forgot the tip number BEFORE 1.
I would consider it most important tip which goes across any venue handler might choose- Build the attitude. C/t for those bushy tails and bright eyes, learn tricks and play, build working relationship, make your dog training junkie who can not wait to play with Da mama again. You have this, everything else is a breeze.
I seriously dislike people giving advise " try agility with your reactive... fearful... distracted...enviromentally challenged... insert your own label... it will help". grrrr
It might, or you might build that reactivity, fear, anxiety, checking with the judge, leaving the ring, having zoomies etc into your venue of choice.
