Very scary day yesterday

Oh gosh, really scary.

I often worry about the pets and a fire, esp during bushfire season. I got caught in bushfires while holidaying on a farm a couple of years ago and the fire came through so quickly many people couldn't get home to rescue pets (workers from the farm went off saving pets). It made me realise things can happen really quickly. Since I converted the back porch into a cat enclosure I've been worried about blocking the pets' only escape route. But recently Tully managed to rip off the reinforced cat netting when she was sick to get into the backyard. So I guess if they are really desperate Tully will find a way, just hope it's quick enough.

We just had a security system installed in our home complete with a fire detector. I worried so much that something would happen when we weren't home and the dogs would be trapped.

That's interesting. It makes sense having a smoke detector that can alert you directly if it goes off when you're not home, I must look into it.

When I was about 11, my aunt's favorite horse was killed in a barn fire. My dad drove by the area, saw the smoke, decided there was no way it could be the same place, and never fully forgave himself. Their reactions were so intense it left a profound fear in me. This is my living nightmare, and one of my biggest fears. Again, I am just so happy that Cleo was okay.

Cleo is doing much better. You can't even tell anything was wrong. It must of just happened when my husband showed up. So I think my husband got to her in enough time. Our cat is unaffected since he was in the other side of the house. Found out the circuit board over heated and caused a small fire. Enough to melt the wires to the board its self. The guy that looked at it is not sure what caused. He is taking the unit home tonight to pull it apart and find the cause. If he can't find the cause, I won't replace the parts. Not risking another possible fire again. We will just suck it up and buy a new one. Cleo is crated in that room and I would just die if anything happened to her.

The great thing is that the security system alerts the firemen that there are pets in the home!

My heart just sank reading your post! I would have just lost it if this had happened to my boys!
So glad Cleo is OK!!! Wow, guardian angel for sure was looking out for her!

I absolutely would contact the manufacturer!
I would also do a search online to see if this has happened to anyone else as a recall may be in order as you could save a life, human or animal or both!

I called the manufacturer and I can't talk to anyone directly. I asked the guy that installed it for me to look into it. We may end up just replacing it if I don't hear something soon.
