I have a year old sheltie. He been vomiting, clear foamy phlegm. Sometimes it just a dry hack. Has anyone had this problem or know of it. He seem fine lots of energy. He eats, but doesn't seem to eat a lot at any one time.

I was once told by a vet that dogs who vomit the clear or yellow fluid have acid in their stomachs and vomit the fluid when their stomachs are empty. It usually happened with mine early in the morning, before they'd had breakfast. If you don't already, you might try feeding your dog a premium holistic dog food with good palatability like Wellness, Solid Gold, Innova or Timberwolf, and add some enzymes. You can get all of these online if you don't have a natural pet store in your area. If it continues and is chronic though, I'd talk with your vet. :yes:

My Sheltie has not had the problem by my mixed breed Tasha has and that is usually due to overexertion, or just as Ann has said, too much acid in the stomach with no food to absorb it therefore Yuks !!:eek2: Tasha on occasion does need pepto Bismal. But don't give any meds without first consulting your vet. Some Shelties just have a nervous stomach as do other breeds. Good luck and let us know how your little furkid is doing.:yes:
 
Thanks, I'm going to change the food. It does seem that he has a empty stomach when this happens. Hopefully this will help, other wise he is very active and seems healthy. I have been reading about food and it's somewhat scary to see what is going into food I thought was good for my dog.

I was suggested to use this by my vet. It seems to help with the stomach acid.
I give my 30lb sheltie 1 tablet, but you may need less

Kadin will do a clear phlem vomit in the morning if his breakfast food is delayed in any way. He is fine if I give him something just before bed at night like a barley and veggie cookie (made by St. Cloud and available at Petco) . I agree that it's because his tummy is empty and the acid build up is very irritating to their stomachs. You might try mixing a little plain yogurt into his new food for a while and see if that helps him some. I agree you should try a rice or potato based food rather than corn based. Most shelties are sensitive to corn and corn gluten.
