Walking problems

My 12 yr old male sheltie (who has has has a spinal cord stroke 6 yrs ago) now AGAIN is having a hard time getting up to walk.
Any suggestions?
Can't hey have ibuprofen?
 
At 12yrs of age he most likely has arthritis. You should see your vet about trying out an ant-inflammatory, and maybe some pentosan/adequan injections. No ibuprofen or panadol. There's a very narrow dosage safety margin on these drugs, so a slight miscalculation can cause liver failure. Better to talk to your vet.
 
Have you tried Green Lipped Mussel? It works wonders on arthritis as it has glucosamine and chondroitin and anti inflammatory properties. It's available at health food stores and online (look for the one for dogs) I use it with my dogs and it's given my older Sheltie so much more energy. Just make sure you buy the cold pressed kind, if they use heat it reduces the efficacy of the Mussels. You can ask your vet about it also...my vet carries it as well (although at a much higher price).
 
Hello. My personal 2 opinion is no to any type of profens or tylenols and that I too highly recommend making an appointment with your vet. As much as we would like to help, we r not vets and legally we can't be giving any medical advice unless ur a certified vet.

I know its hard, I too would turn to a friend or Dr. Google even though I was a receptionist at a veterinary er center and know better to make an appointment with my vet.

AS my guy has been having signs of issues....trimming pad hair and rugs everywhere are a good place to start. I also checked out dr buzby's toe grips. they are next on the list if what I'm doing doesn't help...
