Now that we don't do agility as often, I am walking the dogs every day.

Just out of curiosity...how often do you walk your dogs? How long is the walk?

We try to walk ours every day and it is usually for 45 minutes to an hour. If the baseball diamond near us is empty part of that time will be some free running with the ball. In the nice weather we will also play ball in the backyard for a few minutes a few times a day.

I don't have a yard, so Bailey is walked 4 times a day.

Before I go to work, she gets a 30 minute walk. The dogwalker takes her for 25-35 minute walk in the afternoon. When I return home from work, she gets a 10 minute potty break. Then she eats dinner and we play/train for at least 30 minutes. Her last walk before bed is about 10 minutes.

I usually walk once a day, but I have a fenced yard. They get most of their exercise "patroling" the fence (i.e. chasing up and down, barking at anyone walking by). Plus, while at the cottage, the boys get non-stop exercise chasing lawnmowers, weed-whackers, leaf blower, and sometimes geese.

On non-daycare days, I walk 30-45 minutes twice day (morning and afternoon) and 10 minutes before bed. On some days, there will be an additional 30-60 minutes at the off-leash park.

Sandstorm and I fetch in front of the house for 10 minutes in the a.m., then after work for 1/2 hour we go on a walk, or SS plays with his girlfriend for 1/2 an hour. When husband gets home they go out for about 30 to 45 minutes-off leash adventure. On weekends Sandstorm gets a mostly off leash adventure with me for an hour, then with hubby. I am home for the summer, as I work in a school-Sandstorm is very happy about that!!

Walkies

Weekdays I walk Angus 20 minutes before work ; Ro gives him 2 to 4 walks of 10-15 min apiece during the day, and I do one or two, averaging 20 min, in the evening. When our fenced area is built we'll reduce this. We also can see every day that as a young dog and an "only", he is calmer, happier and less likely to make mischief if well exercised. On some weekend days I take him for 2 hours walking in Penwwod State Park with his pack and with our friend whose three dogs (2 Shelties and a Golden) form the rest of the pack.

Funny because i have been thinking about this so much lately. When I lived in Vancouver I walked Maverick 2X a day. Half an hour to one hour each time. A lot of that time was talking and socializing with many other dog walkers. In the first year and a half of his life which I lived in Vancouver I can honestly say I never missed a day of walking him. I had a fenced in yard.
Here in SD because of the weather, the neighbors idiot lose dog, and walking 2 dogs is harder than one it probably averages 4/7X a week half an hour each time weather permitting. I feel so so very guilty!!! I have half an acre fenced in but I really feel both the dogs and myself need the exercise.

At a bare minimum mine get our 1/2hr cat walk in the morning (yes the cat expects to be walked too) and an hour at the local oval in the evening. I usually fit in another walk with the dogs either straight after the cat-walk or at lunchtime because walking the cat is a bit mundane (she will only walk the one route). The second walk is usually between 40min and and 1 1/2hrs, somewhere they can have a good run off lead. When I was working I used to walk them 2 1/2 - 3hrs a day but nowadays we spend so much time at the dog club or training we dont walk as much.

I like Buffy's walks to add up to about an hour a day. She usually goes out about 4 times a day: morning, lunch, evening, and right before bed. Length depends how much time I have; for example, if I'm running late, the morning walk gets abbreviated. The one right before bed is almost always abbreviated since our place is not great after dark.

Sometimes that doesn't happen, but we also take her out for longer walks usually once on the weekend and once halfway through the week. I also try to do short training sessions with her, as those tire her out as much as walks. I often have her work for breakfast or on her walks. We do the dog beach and dog park quite often too, and she has to work there too.
