Walks

Alright, you guys have me rethinking my walking! I thought I was doing well!

Unfortunately, I can't walk both dogs at the same time (Bentley is reactive and it worries Lexi)...

I've been walking Lexi once a day for 20 minutes, and Bentley once for 15 minutes.

They get 20 minutes of frisbee chasing in the evenings, 3 nights out of the week they get 30 minutes of agility, and one night they each get an hour in class.

Weekends we try to get them out several times to do things (last weekend we went to an outdoor concert...the dogs weren't thrilled about sitting still for an hour and a half!) :lol:

Sounds like a lot of walking to me. Sure is a lot more than most people in the general dog-loving world who don't necessarily go to this forum. I'm sure they're fine. As long as they're not driving you nuts I think they're sufficiently exercised. Maybe that's an inaccurate yardstick, but it's what I use... :wink2:

That's what I've been using! :lol:

Q1) Is Lexi annoying?

Check Yes ---> Needs walk

Check No ---> We can stay home!

I've been walking each separately also- working on the pups loose-leash walking. Callie walks much slower so I don't see her going with them on exercise walks. due to the southern heat, I've been building up their endurance a little at a time. I'm getting 45-60 min but the breakdown is probably 15-20 min per dog depending on the night and how things are going.
Cran is getting agility training twice a week and those night, Dixie might get a walk but Callie probably not. we did get rained out the other evening- Cran was asking to go walkies and I walked out the door to check the weather- splatted by a drop and heard rumbles so indoor playtime.
The pups do play and run a lot in the back yard and there are many chases through the house and out the doggy door so I think that they are doing fine and I'm sure that your pups are too :smile2:

I have not really taken Zak for a longer walk yet, he seem's to lag a bit at times so they have mostly been 20 to 30 min. when we do take a walk. Maggie just can't do them any more due to arthritis. Plus right now it is so darn hot and way to many mosquitos to stay out to long.
We do have a fenced yard and they go out there but don't play with it so hot and muggy.
We will go see some friends Sunday for a party and they will go so Zak will get to play with his buddy Knight.
When it is cooler we will get him out more.

Mine go for about 40 minutes to an hour + a day, longer some days, sometimes less in winter. We have to go every day no matter what the weather as Revel won't allow no walks. If we are going on holiday where we will be doing longer walks then I do try to build it up before hand over the month so they are used to doing about 3 miles+. We have a garden which they play in and all our walks involve (quite a bit) of free running. If for some reason a walk really isn't possible then they have about 30 minutes energetic ball throwing (a ball each) in the house or garden. Most of our walks involve gradients as we live in a hilly area.
