Watson's Ordeal

I am just hearing about this as I was at a Flyball tournament over the weekend and didn't get on the forum much. I am so shocked to hear what happened to Watson! And I am glad to hear that for the most part, he came out of the mauling in pretty good shape. It could have been worse! Poor baby.. I have a bi-black as well and I can't even imagine. I hope Watson's wounds heal and he doesn't have any emotional trauma around other dogs.

I am also praying for you and your boyfriend, and that you guys are able to heal physically and emotionally. It can't be easy to see your baby attacked. Again, I can't even imagine. :hugs
 
Darci, we went though an almost identical incident many years ago with a precious little sheltie boy we had, Teddy. Infection set in on his wounds too and he ended up going through a long surgery to remove all dead tissue and also, like your Watson, had a long drainage tube inserted to allow for constant drainage. His wounds were all in the neck/throat area and in the surgery they had to make an incision that went from ear to ear under his chin. He looked like someone had tired to behead him. :( When he was released from the vet hospital I moved a mattress onto the floor and slept with Teddy by my side for the next 3 weeks until healing was obviously successful. It broke my heart to see him so horribly injured and realize how close we came to losing him, but he made a full recovery and a year later his coat had totally grown back and you would never have known he had been so hurt.

As awful as all this seems now, Watson will come through with flying colors. I am glad you were given harder hitting pain meds for him and my well wishes are with all 3 of you. Watson is lucky to have such a loving and supportive Mom and Dad.

Some how I missed this one, I am so very sorry Watson has to go through this but thank God he is here to go through this healing process. Bless his heart and you and the boy friend? Were you at a dog park or what? I have freind in Ca. that had pit bull come after her and her two shelties- thank goodness nothing happened.
He sounds like a wonderful boy in a very loving home and will enjoy all the extra attention.
 
This just makes me cry--I'm so sorry you and Watson are going through this. Please do keep us posted as he recovers.

People who take out-of-control dogs in public... :gaah
 
I am so sorry..Gavin has been attacked at the dog park twice, but nothing requiring stitches. I think everyone feels your pain...we are all scared of what happened to you and poor Watson. I hope his recovery goes smoothly!

BTW.....BF taking on the Pit Bull, sounds like a keeper....
 
Praying that Watson continues to heal :fl

In one month, my BFF here in town had the pit bull next door break thru the fence, come thru her open door and maul her cat in her own living room. The kitty didn't survive. My friend in Toledo was taking his trash out and the pit next door got out and bit him. He is getting rabies shots as the dog's shots had lapsed. Now I hear of this terrible attack. I am starting to get prejudiced about pits.
 
Prayers for Watson!

I am so sorry you, your boy friend and especially Watson had to endure such a horrific ordeal! My boys are sending their sheltie prayers for Watson's recovery. I could not imagine going through such a trauma.

I am glad he is on pain killers so he may feel a bit funny but not needing to endure more than he already has...

I know Watson appreciates all you are doing to help him heal!

Thank you for the update on Watson's condition. Wishing him a full recovery. I hope you will be bringing the photos to court with you on Friday as well as the vet report. That person should at minimum be paying all your vet bills and her dog needs to be put down - doesn't matter that it's the owners fault we now have a dangerous dog that needs to be prevented from ever causing harm again. My heart goes out to you guys.
 
I'm glad to hear the ending of that story is relatively positive and Watsons getting more comfortable! It must have been terrifying for all three of you, and I hope everyone heals quickly!
