Wow, I'm so impressed with Hunter. Our training club hosted a free Fun Match tonight. For those of you who aren't sure what that is, its like a real Obedience Trial except the points don't count for anything. It's kind of like a dress rehearsal before opening night.
We worked really hard this week on our weakest areas and it really paid off tonight.
Of course the handler (me) was shaking like a leaf! I could barely take his leash off for the heel-free, my hands were shaking too badly!
Here is our score and breakdown:
Heel on leash & figure-8:
-1 pt for some occasional forging
-.5 pt for lack of brisk pace (handler error -doh!)
-.5 pt for crowding (another handler error, I bumped him in the figure 8)
Stand for exam: no point deductions - perfect!
Heel free:
-1 pt for a little lagging and a wide sit
Recall:
-.5 pt for a poor front sit (his little butt was slightly to the left) This was our weakest area and worked our tails off this week, it is much improved!
Long sit and long down : no point deductions
For a grand total of -3.5 pts
This means we scored a 196.5!!! Woo-hoOoOoO! That would have been a Q and a leg to our CD if this had been the real thing!
We got much praise from all of our instructors and our Novice instructor told me I have a dog with alot of potential. He thought we would do ok out there and I guess we surprised him, he said we did phenomenal! He also said he wouldn't be surprised if, when we start doing real trials, Hunter takes three 1st places to get his CD
The Obedience Director gave all the dogs who Q'd a toy prize so Hunter has a new baby blue, lambs-wool bone shaped squeeky to add to his collection
I just had to brag, I am SO PROUD!
There is another fun match about 45 mins away on Sunday and we are considering going to that also. Oh, and I did video tape us tonight so I'll have video of our run in the near future
