My new little sheltie puppy is about 9.5 weeks old, so he's a little young for agility just yet. What is the best age to start it? How does one get involved? TIA!

Most places start as young as 6 months for foundations but there is lots you can do before you do it.You need to work on sit, stay and have a reliable re-call.There is crate games you can do with your pup.I am sure others will chime in.

Not sure where you live but you can look around for scholls that train in Obedience and agility.I know if you go on the Clean Run site there is a lsit of places around.

Sharon is right--he is too young to take formal agility classes, but there is so much foundation work that can be done. Also, at his age, this is just a great time to build a relationship with him, which is the most important part of agility.

See if there are any good training schools around you. Most have a puppy class where you can enjoy being with your dog, bonding and learning together.

Most places have a minimum age of 6 months, but you definitely need to work on bonding and obedience skills first. Sit, Stays, COME, down, all that jazz will help you immensely. Don't rush into agility, enjoy your puppy! It goes by too quickly.
