What Breed Has Your Sheltie Been Confused With?

I don't know what its like in your part of the world, but many people I run into here have no idea what breed a sheltie is.

The other week, someone called her a border collie... :confused2:

Sandstorm has been mistaken for a collie, (he is a big sheltie) I don't mind, but I do correct people. Don't worry, my german-belgian shepherd was once mistaken for a Corgi. :lol:

Fluffy is obviously a border collie and Smudge is a collie.

How dare anybody not know that. :lol:

With the exception of my dog friends, only two people have gotten it right with Smudge (besides the actual vet, of course!). Both of them were older men who were leaving the vet's office. More people seem to know that Fluffy is a sheltie than Smudge. Smudge is never a sheltie. He is always a collie. Fluffy is 95% sheltie and 5% border collie. :eek2: :lol: Smudge is 99% collie and 1% sheltie!
 
Bailey usually gets the Lassie comment as people struggle to remember the word collie, which is fine. I see it as a chance to teach people about shelties. It will be interesting with Katy as she is darker and much smaller to see what people say.
 
Justice, the sable, is always a collie or a sheltie. Diva, the tri, gets BC, and Aussie alot.

Ember, bi blue, well people don't know what Ember is. She has been called a aussie, bc, pom, corgi or people just stare at her and with a dumbfounded look and Ah? What is she? When I told this one lady she was a sheltie, She told me "that isn't a sheltie, I know shelties and that's not one of them.: Um OK.:rolleyes2:
 
We get the miniature collie thing alot here.And it really is something,cause people really think there is such a thing.
People have no idea of what a sheltie is,and think it is a dog that is a collie but smaller.

I am pleased when folks know the boys are shelties,but it is almost always a family that has owned one,or has had someone close to them that has owned one.

Only once was Trapp mistaken for a BC...geesh..! I look at it as a way of a bit of education for most folks,if they ask what they are.And I always do make the correction if they are wrong.
