What color will he be?

I'd have to agree. Check out the photos in my profile. Miko is very dark and started off even lighter than yours, although his tail was pretty dark. Koji started off very sable, but has his streaks of black now. :)

Mickey, IMHO, will get darker as he ages. And probably look like my Miko when he's older (by older, I mean at least 4+).

Welcome to the world of the ever changing sable. lol

I must agree - Mickey will get darker. For example, look at this sheltie picture - here is my sheltie pup, Jack, when he was 5 months. By the time he was 1 year, his coat turned into shaded sable. This is very common for shelties

I also think that your dog will turn out to be a mahogany or shaded sable. One of my dogs (Riley) had almost the same coloring when he was younger. He is now a shaded sable and has the same black tail!

I would agree

The dark guard hair that is starting to grow in points to a mahoghany sable.

Of course, all sables will have some dark shading, but your sable colouring tends toward the darker side. Not alot of red or gold in what I call the sub-guard hair.

My forever pup was a mahognany sable.

Yep -- I agree: mahogany sable. Annie Laurie and Beckon are both mahoganies, and they're so lovely!

I am thinking a shaded sable, but not necessarily a mahogany. There is definately the shading there but atm the sable looks golden. I found in Tully the mahogany appeared as a greyish colouring in her puppy coat. Love Timber's colouring - he has the beautiful red tinge of the mahogany.

Your dog is GORGEOUS! My pup is 5 months (sable) but he is nowhere near as filled out as yours is. And I thought mine was ahead as far as coat growth goes....sigh* Here's mine at 5 months... Claussen6.jpg
