I'm glad I jumped on here and saw these posts. Now that we have Tangie, we're going to adopt another in the very near future. My wife and I have talked about whether or not we needed a second crate. Tangie seems to like going in her crate if she hasn't been invited up on the bed to sleep there. Seems a second might be in order to give the "new" girl a place of her own.
What do I need to do at home to prepare for a second Sheltie?

I would definitely give each dog their own crate.
A second crate now sits in our bedroom. Everyone will have their own safe place.
