What does your agility dog eat?

So i have this diet food for my older girl nikki cause shes overweight, and i used to feed Bandit and Slate this same food.

Well i wanted something for Bandit, something thats helps him build muscle and gives him alot of energy.
and i was wanting something for Slate to help him gain some weight cause he is a little bit too skinny

So i bought some natural choice "high energy" that has a high protien formula.

now Slate and Bandit have runny poo and they've been crapping all over the house cause they cant hold it.
Somehow my older sheltie got into that food, had an accident and had poo all over her furry rear:dead:

Ive been wanting to get bandit into agility soon, so my question is what is some good dog food for bandit to have that wont possibly make him have the runs.
 
Agility

I feed Solid Gold Hunden-Flocken lamb for both my dogs and never have had any problems. No runny stools.
 
I've been told that its common for Shelties to have trouble with very high protein foods.

We recently switched Smoke from Three Dog Bakery baked food because it has wheat flour, which turns out he is allergic to. We're now feeding SmartPak Chicken and Brown rice formula. We switched very slowly by mixing the 2 foods for a while, and so far hes really enjoying the new food with no intestinal distress. It is 24% protein, and hes got plenty of energy with it :smile2:
 
Mine get Taste Of The Wild. For my two agility girls in the heaviest training who compete frequently, they get a mix of Taste Of The Wild and EVO.

I was feeding the boys Orijen which is a 6 star, grain-free, high protein food. They were doing great on it, until Bacca got sick and then it wouldn't have anything more to do with it.

I'm now transitioning over to Horizon Legacy which is also grain-free and high protein. No poop issues at all! And Bacca is eating again, so it must taste good too!

Warning about high-protein though....make sure they get access to lots of water. When we were feeding Orijen, they lapped water like constantly. They do not seem to be as thirsty with the Horizon though.

What I liked about both is when you open the bag (yes, they are zip-lock bags!), you can actually smell the food!
 
There are vitamin supplements for building muscle in dogs and one specifically designed for agility/flyball/sled dogs. There is also a supplement used to build muscle and reduce fat in horses that is also used in dogs - I will have to look for the info though as I saw it on a forum discussion last year.

With some of the high protein foods they also contain higher levels of fat so you might need to check the fat content. Higher fat content can upset a dog's stomach if they are used to lower levels of fat. Also, check the food you are giving them contains more meat rather than plant proteins.

If mine have been running all day -which happens when we are bush walking on weekends - I add extra meat to their food, esp Kangaroo meat (high protein low fat) or chicken. Meat is the best source of protein as it oxidises into muscle more readily and for me I find it easier just to add the extra on the days they need it.

PS - I think its me who needs the extra protein for agility, I cant keep up with my dogs.

Agiltiy Dog Food

We went through various different foods, and finally settled on Mera Dog - its very expensive here as it is imported from Germany.
They have various grades, according to the amount of excercise the dog has, and have refined their protein to fat content accordingly. None of our dogs are overweight [worst thing for an agiltiy dog]. Each of our dogs are on a different product according to their needs & weight.

LOL! I know that feeling - and I don't do agility! I need it sometimes just to get out of bed in the morning! :lol:

What do you think an acceptable fat content would be?
