Hi and Welcome!
Just like with your minis, any dog going into the ring should be in the best possible condition you can get them into. There's some forgiveness in puppy/12-18 classes for "funky" coats... but if your puppy has no hair and looks like a stringbean, then it might be best not to show him until he's older.
Now is the time to get your puppy "into the program". Make sure he's getting plenty of exercise (full-out running, not just walking or trotting), fresh air, and sunlight. Get him onto a good food (see what your breeder recommends) and make sure that he's at a good weight. Puppies sometimes don't put on weight as eagerly as you'd like, but you don't want a meatball, either. Figure out a grooming routine and stick to it. I see that you're in Georgia, and it's June, so I imagine it's hot down there - but make sure he stays cool to encourage coat growth. (Again, though, summer in Georgia - I'm not sure how much cold and coat you're going to be able to muster up!

)
Above all, consult your mentor/breeder. S/he has (hopefully) been down this road many times, and can help you get your puppy on-track to be ready for the ring.
Welcome to dog showing! I hope you have a wonderful time.
