Last year they had a workshop here in Louisiana to explain zeutering. Haven't heard of anyone I know trying it. Here is a link to an article from our paper- http://www.nola.com/pets/index.ssf/2013/05/local_veterinarians_certified.html

By law, over here you are required to get your dog desexed by 6mths. Yep, that's right 6mths unless you get a special license or are registered with the Kennel Club. Most people get their dogs done at around 9mths though and most vets will recommend waiting until then. Deska was neutered at 12mths, only because I wanted to see if those testes would drop. He was a very easy teenager, had a humongous coat and was oversized by the time he was desexed. Tully was a show dog but I ended up desexing her before 12mths because she was attacked several times and the vet said it was likely because she was small and intact (prime target for aggressive, unconfident dogs, esp females). It was the end of her show career but she never got attacked again.
Wow, is that law just in the ACT Caro? I know in NSW there is no law requiring desexing but the fee you have to pay for council registration by 6 months of age is pretty much 4 times more expensive if the dog hasn't been desexed by that time.
however he constantly bashed it around & managed to get it off even though they fitted it for him at the vet. Although it was not attaached to his collar.

I tried the cone with Bailey since he likes to lick himselfhowever he constantly bashed it around & managed to get it off even though they fitted it for him at the vet. Although it was not attaached to his collar.
I decided to use a t-shirt with holes for his feet but he managed to stick his nose into the tiny gap even though I tried to make it pretty snug.
Now he is wearing those washable cover-ups made for female dogs in heat and they are wokring great! The pink & purple colors are not very masculine but he only wears them in the house :-o
His surgery was Friday & so far everything is looking good. You would never know he had surgery, I picked him up Friday & he was ready to go, ate his dinner no problem ( I fed it in 2 smaller portinos) & the next day he was back to his high energy self.....trying to keep him quiet has been a challenge with the cat around
