when do shelties get long hair

Be careful what you wish for, you may just get it. :smile2: April's a little hair growing machine! And she hates giving it up.

I agree! Did you see the posted pictures that Granite and I did of the "mounds of fur" we pulled out of dogs over the last week?

Yikes! Sometimes I wish I had one of those hairless, ugly dogs. Can't remember what they are called...Senile moment!

Do you mean the Chinese Crested dogs? From what I've seen they win a lot of ugly dog contests LOL. I prefer my dogs with hair and fluff myself!

Yeah, I saw those piles of hair, and I wish April would give it up like that. But Noooooo. She'll keep on the heavy coat for a few months yet.

That's Indy! He doesn't shed it...he just holds it close! And puts both of us through hours of pain to get it out. Indy....just blow it, alreay@!

i looked at all your pictures, didnt see the one you are speaking of, but i will add your darling puppies are super cute!

I will say, im sure its going to be crazy but i cant wait for her to be soft and fluffy!

Both mine are/were indoor doggies, which means they blow coat CONSTANTLY. Neechee's wasn't all that bad - he had very little undercoat and he was small to begin with and I kept him brushed almost daily.

Bela is another story altogether. I guess nobody had time to really line brush her in rescue, so after a few days, I started. She had very heavy undercoat thatch and I could have made two more dogs with what I got off her! It's been a couple of days since I brushed her last, and I can already feel the thatch matting up again.

Buffy's hair got long around 1 year old. Now that she's 2, it's longer and darker - around 3 inches long. She didn't really go through the "coyote" stage - maybe because she's so small, so she was never all that long and skinny.

Different lines develop at different rates, though. Some Shelties don't get full coats until age 3 or so. Buffy is way more "hair-endowed" than my other Sheltie, Abigail.

i spoke with her breeder and she said momma got her coat around a year and daddy got it a little sooner so im excited!

Thanks for all the input! :biggrin2:
