My sheltie is 2yrs & coming 2mths old. He has been losing nearly 65% of his undercoat although he still have a nice glossy & flowy outer coat esp at his chest & leg's feathering! His sire is a canadian sheltie while his mum is a local.
He has completed 6mths supplies of salmon fish oil & omega oil supplements. But have not seen much improvements? Although as mentioned above, it might take 3yrs to get the full coat... my male sheltie is losing his inner coat each day! I've to brush him every alt day to keep the coat flying everywhere!
Can anyone advise?
My dogs are from slow maturing lines. My boy who is intact took almost 4 yrs to get his full coat. My blue girl spayed at 2.5yr is still getting more coat at almost 5yr. Her coat is so thick and she just shed. My Tri girl is 1.5yr and still has almost no undercoat. It is growing in some but I know from her lines that 1-2 more yrs is needed for the full effect.

Everyone at the shows laughs at me that they dont want to be around when he blows coat because its going to be ugly with the amounts of fur!! He's known around the house at Don King!
He's soo full and fluffy...but yes normally its around 2-3 years old for adult coat...I cant even imagine how much he would have at that age!!!
Her coat isn't short short, but I think I know what you mean. She could also stand to drop a few.

and a bushy tail too
