when to switch to an adult food?

hey everyone.

my little boy Sheldon just turned 7 months recently. just wondering what anyone else has done.

He's essentially stopped getting taller. I think he's just filling out now.

our vet mentioned that because they're smaller dogs they grow quicker. He figured he could be switched before he was a year. We've also had some problems with diarrhea (no worms, parrasites, etc) and i'm putting it down to the high fat in the puppy food. eager to switch but not before he's ready.

I switched Pyper to adult food about 8 months. It's good to start switching when you still have half a bag of puppy food left. That way you can transition slowly. Recently I started adding a little salmon to her food. She seems to have more energy with the extra protein. Unbelievably she is a very low energy puppy....I say as she's ripping it up in the family room with her Shih/Poo, Kenzie...
 
He is so handsome! Might I ask what his pedigree is?

I think I switched both of mine slightly before 1 year (10 mos? 11 mos? Can't remember!)
 
Emma I switched over at about 11 months, Liam around the same.

He is a really handsome boy. And welcome from a fellow Canadian.

You can switch any time after six months, depending on his needs. We were told that because Shelties are prone to gain weight, they should be transitioned from puppy food between six and eight months. Of course if you have a pup that needs it longer, that's fine. If you think he's ready, I'd begin the switch. As dmeyer said, start slowly when you have half a bag of puppy food.
 
I think I switched Zak over at 9 months but I started a bit before so he was fully switched at 9 months. You have a very handsome boy there.
 
I think I switched over about 7 months. Even though my boys are only 3.5 years old, I do have them both on Adult/Senior formula from Now! Mostly for the reduced protein, grain-free diet. But also because these boys of mine can get tubby if I'm not careful!
