when will shelties have first heat

HI All

Mui mui is 6 mothns old tomorrow, most of the vet suggust to spay a femail at the age of 6 month before her first heat. I dont have have female sheltie before. I seached on the web to find when will the dog have first heat and the result said it depends of the size of the breed.
Anyone have idea when will sheltie have their first heat?
I will spay her soon, but just too worry to spay her. I have another sheltie Mo Mo, I neutered him at 1 years old.

depends on the line. Some come in at 6 months other lines 18 months. All depends. On average with mine its around a year.
 
Ember came in at 14 months, Diva at 8 months. The majority of their line was 10-11months. The avg I've seen is 9 months for small dogs and 7 months for large. But I've seen them go in as early as 5 months and as late as 18 months.
 
I have one that went to 35 1/2 months before her first season. My vet swore she had a silent heat that I missed, but I have a very astute boy, I would have seen something. I attribute it to her being one of those super-skinny dogs (like gymnasts and ballerinas). Once I managed to get weight on her, she came in. Bred on her second season (a year later) and produced five puppies.

Wow, thats quite a wait. and here I am thinking Cambria is about a month away from now, so 9 months when she does it.

All dogs are different. It depends on their line, but even that cannot be a true indicator.

It is nature.....wait and see.

The risks are negligible. It depends on what kinds of cancer you are trying to prevent. You might reduce the risk of mammary cancer, but significantly increase the chances of bone cancer.

EXACTLY!!!!! They don't tell you that when they tell you to spay your dogs. . . I personally think that if your willing to take some responsibility when your dog goes into heat 1 or 2 times a year and not let them get pregnant then their is more risk in spaying them than it's worth.
 
It also depends on the contract with the breeder. With Emma's breder, companion puppies are sold on a spay/neuter contract and registration papers come when the spay/neuter is done. With this contract, Emma had to be spayed by seven months, which I was really close to due to issues with medication reactions. Most breeders in Ontario have a spay/neuter contract.
