When your sheltie picks someone to yell at…

Just wondering if anyone’s had success working through a sheltie deciding someone in the family needs extra bossing around.

Mindy has recently begun “yelling” at my husband when he speaks. It gets worse as the day goes on. We’ve tried millions of positive reinforcement things and nothing seems to change her mind. She’s lived with us almost her whole life. This has not always been the way. She is an anxious and reactive dog, with IBD already on meds for anxiety and her GI issues.

We do lots of training. I have my husband spend time doing positive reinforcement training with her and she loves that but inevitably, later in the day, she reverts to the old behavior.

Piper, as good of a dog as he is can also get it into his head to suddenly bark at me, either out of jealousy (because I’m playing with another dog) or because he wants something (Blueberry does this ). I’m also wondering if there’s something your husband is doing that has become a bit of a routine to Mindy that is causing this behaviour? Perhaps try changing things up a bit in the evening, alter your routine. Shelties are smarter than we give them credit for sometimes and they can pick upon things we don’t see.
I’m also really beginning to think that females are a lot bossier than the males...Blueberry has no problem telling me when she wants something whereas my boys are content to wait.
Hopefully you can figure out a solution to your problem quickly!

Having had two girls and two boys, yes, the girls have both been more bossy! Mindy definitely picks up on the patterns and back chains from there. It is so frustrating. I think it might all have to do with Mindy thinking he’s going to leave. Sigh…
