Which food do you feed?

Part of my problem is that in my move last spring, somehow I lost some of Bacca's test results....so they are no longer complete.

Hard to get others involved if I don't have a complete history any more. So I need to go back to my vet.

An update.....

I decided not to switch my dogs food after all - at least until Bacca's next set of tests.

I'm embarrassed to say that the "big" poops that I was seeing were really just poops that were being expanded by water!

Now that spring is here, the poops have shrunk to normal size.

TOTW is still a potential for us, but no change for now.

Thought this would be a good time to post our "results" from changing foods. We switched from TOTW Sierra Mountain to Acana Ranchlands.

First of all, it smells like food. I know that sounds weird, but it makes me feel better because it really does smell like food rather than dog food (if that makes sense). I also like that the meat that goes in is local, and natural. And the food is never frozen--always fresh.

The dogs love it, but then again, they love all food, so that doesn't count for much.

They do seem to poop a bit less, though Lexi is still pooping 3x a day. I think it's just a habit (as some are quite small). Of course we are also feeding raw twice a week, so that could contribute as well.

I am now transitioning them to Grasslands, and will rotate between Acana's 4 flavors (I also like that their fish flavor "Pacifica" does not contain Smoked Salmon which was mentioned on here to have a lot of sodium.)

I know what you mean when you say it smells like food. When we bought the Blue Buffalo it smelled different-more like food, and fresher than the other foods we used. My husbands DintyMore beef stew smells like cheap dog food! I cannot get him to stop eating that horrible stuff!!!!

I know what you mean as well....the Now! that my pups are on smells like food too! I open the container and the smell is very rich.

And they both seem to love it.

I've not given them another bone yet.....seems every night we've had rain and I really prefer them to eat it outside. So next non-rainy night, they'll get another raw fix.

Hey Barb,

I know you said the Now is working and their poops are fine, but I was doing research for a friend of mine for food that had levels that you wanted. I came across Natural Balance Limited Ingredients Grain-free. I figured, at least you can have another food in your arsenal if needed.

Most of them are about 20% protein. Fat is 10% and up depending on the protein.

They also have a line called Alpha Dog. Proteins are mid-20's.

Thanks so much! I will look into it!

Cheers!
