Currently the guys are on Trifexis but at about $600 a year for the two of them I am considering a change. Number one is effectiveness but it seems like Heart guard and flea/tick might be a better choice. Oh and I hate the topical flea meds as it always gets in their fur :-(

I hate the topicals too.....
We've been using Sentinel for hw and I get Comfortis but only really give it to them during the summer..... or if I see a flea on them....
I can't bear to add the costs of any meds for 4 shelties:rolleyes2:

I am about to switch from the topicals too. I put it on, forget about it, then scratch his back. Yuk! Smells bad for days too. I am looking at Sentinel Spectrum. Heartworm, & fleas. From what I have read, safe for Shelties. Pet Meds has it at $92.00 for a 12 pack. I also saw a $25.00 rebate, but not sure if it is still valid. One more month of the topical, and we are done!

We use interceptor for heartworm prevention, and simparica for flea/tick prevention (I live in south Florida so fleas and ticks are a year round problem)

We use the same as Cara. Even though we are in Eastern Pa we do treat year round for fleas and tics. Shelby has already been bringing tics in the past few weeks.

Sentinel Spectrum also does tapeworms...

basically Sentinel is Interceptor with flea growth inhibitor added and Sentinel Spectrum adds the tapeworm medicine
