Why should people join the Sheltie Forums?

I joined because I want to understand Shelties better and be a better sheltie mom. Beau is my second sheltie (I have had GSs and mixed breeds in the past). My first sheltie, my heart dog, Shadow, passed away in 2015. He was a gentle giant and very easy to train. I feel madly in love with the breed. My new baby is almost the polar opposite of Shadow--everything that was problematic about Shadow (such as dog friendliness) is absent from Beau but my baby has some very difficult aspects that I am trying to learn to deal with appropriately. It has been encouraging to learn that my large, smart as a whip and quirky Beau is simply being a sheltie! And I could read about shelties all day. I am so happy to join a diverse group of dog lovers who can support, provide information or just share stories about our furry loves.

Our first Sheltie was 32 years ago, she was the runt and tiny. There were 2 Great Pyrenees, a Cocker Spaniel and a Shih Tzu and now Cooper. He is an oversized male which is why he is pet pup. Hubby and I constantly ask each other “was Misty like this? lol. I appreciate everyone’s advice and comments as we go through our puppy adventure!

Hi everyone!

I would love to hear your answers to this question:

‘Why join the Sheltie Nation Forums?’

Let’s say you are trying to encourage people to join our community. What reasons would you give to encourage them to join? What makes our community relevant to you? What do we do well? What makes our members great?

I want to hear all your ideas and hope to read a lot of answers! :wink2:

(We have A LOT of lurkers, so come out, come out where ever you are!)

Cooper is a Lucky boy to have you! In my experience with my sheltes. Laddie, the first of my sheltie was very calm and only barked if I didn't take him with me.i was 11 when Laddie was given to me. Later on when my very active son was an infant,we got Peppy. Peppy was Peppy and could steal a diaper in a flash Peppy was the a merle and wonderful with my little boy. but just like his name he reminded peppy all his life. Next came Heidi..she was a Sptitz/ Sheltie. She was sheltie in nature with spitz body.Heidi was a sable.very sweet, very well behaved and the first to learn to ring the sleigh bells to go out to potty.although she had one habit we had to control.she loved the trashcan.we had to put child proof locks on the kitchen cabinet doors that would let her get to the trash. That works great btw. Heidi was sprited and high energy and had a wonderful bond with the family including Sam the Cat.. They played a lot and genuinely loved each other. Heidi lived a very long time.iy was hard to see any of them have to go rainbow Bridge. I guess what I am saying is like children. Each sheltie I had came with sheltie great temperment, but each was very different in how they behaved..soi I learned not to compare the new with the other. Each is unique and totally bums love.!!
