Will boycott this film! A dog's purpose

Ok, at first this movie made me want to see it but NOT after seeing this clip of a German Shepherd almost drowning! It is horrifying! As sweet as this movie seems on the surface, I am crushed they would put any animal through this terrifying experience! The dog is clearly scared out of its mind! Will not see this movie!

TMZ broke the story ... behind the scenes footage showed a handler trying to force the dog into the pool. Hercules ended up going under once filming resumed, but divers and handlers quickly rescued him.

The representative from the American Humane Association who was on the set of "A Dog's Purpose" has been suspended after officials saw video of a terrorized dog on set.

TMZ posted the hard-to-watch video Wednesday morning, showing a German Shepherd that clearly did not want to swim in the turbulent waters, but was forced to do so by his handler.

The American Humane Association was on set and is responsible for enforcing safety guidelines for animal actors. The org is the body that validates that no animals are harmed in the making of a film.

The AHA tells TMZ, "We are placing the safety representative who was on the set on administrative leave immediately and are bringing in an independent third party to conduct an investigation into this matter."

Amblin Partners and Universal Pictures told TMZ, they have always been determined to foster the ethical treatment of actor animals and are investigating the matter.

Gloria, I can't bring myself to watch the video but I appreciate the warning. Sounds HORRIBLE and I won't go see this film, either. (Which I probably would have if you hadn't posted!!) Thank you for spreading the word. :mad1: What is WRONG with people?!!

I wasn't planning on seeing it because just watching the trailer made me tear up. I did watch the video of the poor dog, and it's terrible. The target audience for this film is dog lovers... and dog lovers tend to dislike dogs being treated badly. If that was the only way to get the shot with the dog, they should have used a cgi dog or something.

Thanks Sharon and Cleo for your support!
This poor dog is probably going to be traumatized for a while near water!

I hate to say that some folks are equating it to a bath or trying to get a dog off your bed that does not want to do so. I am afraid I can not be so insensitive about a frightened animal!

As if this story was not bad enough a rottie was rescued today here in Michigan with his nose cut off and his ears too! I will not post the photos as they are too graphic even for me! I had to look away when the report showed the poor dog!

There is a special hell waiting for those that are cruel in this world! Thank God this site exists for those of us who care so deeply about compassion for animals or humans...

Thanks for letting me rant!

Great point about CGI!!!!

I dare not see the video.

I remember - when I had my first German Shepherd -it become modern you should try to take the dog for indoor dogs swim. :biggrin2:

10 GSD and owners from the club drove to the place and were lined up in a long line - I stood as no. 3
- the first dog (owners little dog) had tried this before so it looked ok
- the next was usually a big "water dog" on the beach,
but here he was so terrified - people did not notice the dog frightened eyes and how he tried to staying afloat
-but they laughed and seemed it looked so funny.

Then it was my turn, but said I did not want to expose my dog for this
- which the coach and the others thought was nonsense - the dog deserved a try !!!

- but why should she try this and maybe get a bad experience and at the same time feel that I betrayed her and losing her confidence in me.

I had nothing to use dogs swimming to - we stayed at the beach all summer and there she loved to swim every day.
But I could with a good conscience see her in her eyes :hugs- when we got home !!

Why!!!? I just cannot wrap my head around someone who would do that to an animal.

I absolutely cannot handle anything like this and I have no idea why people post this stuff on Facebook, or anywhere else. I can't unsee it once it shows up on my timeline and it's awful. It seems to me it just encourages other crazies to do the same kind of thing. I don't understand what is wrong with people who perpetrate this kind of cruelty to animals and I agree with you...I hope there is a special place in hell for them. I think it's important for all animal lovers to boycott films like this one, as well as the people who post these things on social media.

I totally agree! I understand wanting to spread awareness, but like you said, I can not unsee it - and it never leaves me. I wish people would STOP posting these things.
