I'm told that we are having a mild winter here in Ohio, too. We have been quite concerned about it since we moved from the south.
We did get a little snow this weekend, and I'm told the roads are slick this morning so I better be VERY careful.
The dogs on the other hand really seem to enjoy the snow! Lexi didn't want to come inside!

That is a really unusual winter for northern Alberta. I can remember -40 temps around Christmas and lots of snow and driving on four inches of ice (or more) by the time spring came around.
We have had only snow flurries here - more rain than anything and above freezing temperatures. I have tulips through the ground, some about 3 inches up and it looks like the narcissus are starting to come through the ground.
I know mine love the snow, as it is a great big bowl of "ice cream" that they love to eat.

Well this morning we have -11 windy blizzzard and 25cm of nice new fluffy snow since yestarday afternoon, although it was horrid geting into work, I am sure that Cosmo & storm are in a state of Sheltie Delight and are probably busy tearing new trails all around the backyard as I type this.

It's all rain here....snow was long gone before I even got Mozart. Greater Vancouver area only knows rain...it never stops. My pond has already flooded over...creek is so high its almost brushing the bottom of our bridge....driveway has turned into puddle ground...

It could be he is not use to the cold yet. Also if you are walking him though thawed snow or wet and then snow, it could be freezing the bottom of the feet.
If you are walking on areas that are salted, I would recommend boots if it is just snow , like in the backyard, it is just something they need to get use to.
Last winter Ember, who was 5 at the time, ran out into the backyard and on the way back started limping on one foot, then the other and then just fell down in the snow on her side like she was dead. I yelled at her to get up and get in the house because I wasn't going out to get her. Well, she popped right up and ran in the house like nothing happened.
Born and raised in Minnesota and she just wanted to see if she could get alittle sympathy.

Last night we went to take all 3 for a walk it was -17C with a -23 windchill.
after a block Cyn took Rocky & Storm back home as they kept hiking up thier back feet up off the icey snow, Cosmo was fine and went the whole normal route
no problem, just keep a carefull watch on them, they will let you know if they are not comfortable with it.
I have never used booties on them as they just won't wear them ,but I do soak thier feet in warm water when we get home to melt and dislodge any snowballs and wash off any salt they might have picked up .

We had one day with some slick roads. Glad I don't hike in the neighborhood with my two. Must have been a rookie, he unloaded all the salt in our little area. My neighbor alone swept up two large buckets full for his parking lot, there is plenty more. It is unreal!
We are suppose to get some bad weather here Wednesday night into Thursday. My two love the snow. I get so tickled with Lucky he is so spunky for 10 and 1/2, just plows right on. Lil' Lady looks like she has springs on her paws in the white stuff, she is the most hysterical little girl I have ever been around.
