Worried about her nails

That's grate news! I hope she makes a good and full recovery:biggrin2:! And no Sarah doesn't seem to be in any discomfort (liking, chewing, limping, etc). She doesn't like me cutting her nails, but that's nothing new. But when I looked at it today I noticed that the side of her nail is starting to split at the tip of the quick. It's been mostly flaking so the crack is worrying me, it's not big but it may become larger:(. If it gets worse I'm taking her to the vet. This is the last thing I wanted to deal with right now. I want to clean it, should I us rubbing alcohol or something else? Im not sure if they can have it but when Sarah was a pup (about 6 or 7 weeks) she fell down the steps on the back porch and got a little cut on her lip, not a bad one it just looked so bad on a baby! I had my mom clean it at least two times a day with alcohol and it healed in a week, still had a pink scar for about a month though:uhoh:.
 
Thank you both! I really hope so, too, just so she won't have to go back. Kelsea had to get her blood drawn for her annual heartworm test while we were there. They couldn't get enough blood the first time so they had to do it twice and she cried the whole time. She's a very shy dog and is timid with people but lately she's made so much improvement. I hope she won't associate this experience with people outside the clinic. :(

Is it just the one nail, Tabitha? I think a visit with the vet would be a good idea if it doesn't get better, the flaking of the nail doesn't sound right. Has there been bleeding or anything? I know my sheltie would have a fit if I used rubbing alchohol. It stinks and it burns like crazy, so I've been using betadine because it doesn't burn and it's not stinky (she's actually tried to eat it). I've also heard good things about chlorhexidine. :)

Speaking as a person who uses betadine scrub on a regular basis. Betadine burns like H**l! in open sores especially if not diluted just as bad as alcohol. I used it one time to clean out a bite on myself and I almost needed to be peeled out of the ceiling.:eek2: Diluted chlorhexadine 2% sol is the way to go. :smile2:

Oops, I forgot to mention that I use diluted betadine. :lol: Sorry!
