...about how smart these little dogs are:eek2:

So I picked up a clicker for Merlin last Wednesday. Wednesday night within a 1-2 minute session he knew exactly that that clicker meant.

Since then we have had between 2-3 5 minute sessions a day and we now know

'Come'
'Sit'
'Sit and wait' (used when feeding him)
'Down'
'Stand'
'Give paw' (he's a leftie:smile2:)

Oh and we have cottoned on to sitting at a person's feet when they are eating and looking pretty so you get a bit - I swear I only weakened once, and now its ingrained:o

Crikey, I can't keep up with this little dog!

Shelties ... genuises with fur. They will keep you on your toes. Keep an eye out, to be certain that Merlin keeps using his extraordinary mental powers for good and not for evil.

:eek2:

And then, the day adolescence hits, you'll say, "Come," and he'll say, "Wha? Huh? Who?"
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!

I swear... it does happen! Ember knew all of that and more at 9 weeks. Went to puppy class at 6 months, and she each week would act like she hadn't the faintest clue what I was asking of her. Embarrassed the heck out of me week after week, knowing good and well I had worked hard on those things

Ah, welcome to the Wonderful World of Sheltiedom. They say Border Collies are smart, but I think Shelties are smarter because they hide how smart they are until the day they really need to outfox you. And then you're toast.

LOL Oh Sophie - some things you are just going to have to learn on your own. Chris is so right though a time comes when they are like "what did you say - I can't hear you"
They are the best yet in my book no matter what age.

LOL!! Anything involving food, glorious food will have your Sheltie doing anything you want - including back flips! I'm getting a good giggle out of YOUR training as being conducted by Merlin!

Yes, they're smartie pants alright ! I've also learned that it works both ways: once a habit, it's very hard to undo things with these dogs.
