    Shock Collars

Before I even got a dog, I looked at harnesses. My very first dog I had a choke collar, but he'd wiggle out of it. I also didn't like the idea of strangling a poor dog just because I need to keep moving. I have two styles, one that fits perfect for Daisy as I don't have to lift her one...

    Puppy Time!?

My local Petsmart offers dog training classes. Puppy: 5 months or younger Beginner: over 5 months or any adult dog without prior instruction Based on that, I would say yes puppies younger than 6 months can be. I'd heard that if a dog recently had the parvo vacc, then they couldn't be...

    Heya Ya'll

I will probably do that after I get my financial aid from school. Graduate school is expensive.

    Standard hand signals

I think it just matters to be consistent. If you have multiple pets that you're training, would also make sense to be consistent across to all. If you use one hand signal for "jump" then don't expect them to preform "down" even when you're saying down, but hand signaling jump.

AKC's Barking Bulletin - sweet Sheltie story

That reminded me of my older cat (I say older, I had to have her put down in 2006). When I first got her, she was shy, timid, and always was so, but boy would she defend my kitten. When I got a kitten (as a pet for my dog), she took her in as her own, this little tiny kitten (who's now 6)...

    Pet Therapy

Part of it is for me, I have PTSD (major anxiety), and it's just so soothing to looking into the loving gaze of a dog and stroke their fur. Dogs are the epitome of unconditional love. I would've like to have done therapy work with my Daisy, who has three legs. While she never meets a...

    Heya Ya'll

My university offers a course on ATT (animal assisted therapy) which you don't have to have a pet to take. I plan on taking that. The lady who teaches it has a cocker spaniel (Rusty I think is his name), and they're certified through Delta, which I'd like to do as well. I want to be a...

    Pet Therapy

I'm going to train my dog for Delta Society. Essentially it's the same as the (Canine Good Citizenship test. My university offers a course on animal assisted therapy, which I plan on taking either as part of my masters or afterwards. That's my long range goals. For now, she's almost 10...

    Walking while peeing!?!

I have a 9 yr old three legged terrier mutt who walks when she pees. Her crowning achievement was walking the length of my sister's front walk (about 20 feet or so) with a stream going the whole way. she walks in such a way that doesn't get her wet, is funny to watch too. She's always done...

    Heya Ya'll

I'm actually getting my sheltie on Jan 16th. (I'll post a pic later) I have family visiting from out of state, and felt between an additional 6 people in house + their dog, in addition to my mom, my own dog, two cats, and the bird, would be a bit too much stress, so I opted to wait. I...

    Blue buffalo dog food?

I've been using Blue buffalo with my dog and both my cats (my sheltie I'm getting in a few weeks, after the chaos from the holidays finally leave) Blue Buffalo start their food with human grade quality and make pet food out of it. With other brands, as one vet reported, the by-products are...
