My Beloved Chance passed to Rainbow Bridge yesterday

I am so sorry to hear that Chance has passed over the Rainbow Bridge. Such amazing love he knew and gave...may the memories you have bring comfort to your aching heart. It is so hard to say goodbye...I believe that we see our beloved friends again, that they will be waiting to joyfully greet...

    Bib pattern or source?

Perfect!! I can totally do that! Thanks so much. :) .....and my thanks to Deska for modeling - I hope you got a treat out of the deal, buddy, even if you didn't get dinner yet. :)

How many hours is your Sheltie's average day?

I get up hecka early most days, usually between 4am and 4:30. Maddie is happy to snooze in her crate so long as I am in the room (making bed, getting dressed, whatever). But when I'm ready to go into the kitchen, I open her crate and out she comes - always with a wagging tail and a lean...

    Bib pattern or source?

Does anybody use bibs on their shelties? If so, could you point me towards either a retail source, or maybe post a pattern? I'm pretty sure I could figure it out and make one, but it would be nice not to re-invent the wheel (or the bib, as the case may be). I'm thinking maybe a basic baby...

    Need help with food please

I tend to buy local meat and organic produce, the eggs I use are bought from a friend who has backyard chickens. The brewer's yeast and olive oil are usually organic, although not local. Edit: Basically, I feed Maddie what I feed the rest of the household - I just buy a bit more now that...

    Need help with food please

That's why I don't feed just meat - I include the 'dog veggies'. Her condition is stunning and robust, so I'm pretty sure she's getting the nutrition she needs. Some people do add supplements (you can order them from various places) but I don't use them.

    hummus anyone????

I don't think that hummus would harm your dog in small amounts. Legumes aren't a normal part of a dog's diet, but a small amount shouldn't cause harm. And I feed garlic to Maddie all the time (in small amounts), the garlic found in a small amount of hummus won't harm your dog at all.

    Need help with food please

I switched Maddie to a raw diet a few months ago, and I've found it to be very cost effective, and easy to do. Not to mention, she absolutely LOVES it. No wasted food ever. Here's what I do: A couple of times a month, I buy ground meat on sale (usually turkey, because she likes turkey a lot...

Vocalizing? Do your kids do this?

Maddie is definitely a talker. I'm working really really hard on the idea of 'no gratuitous barking in the house', and she's slowly getting it - but is substituting some really creative non-barking vocalizations in lieu of barking. She is especially talky with housemate #2 - oh, the...

    Baths

I seldom take baths (that will change as the weather gets colder..) but Maddie gets fairly displeased and unhappy when I stand in the water box (i.e. take a shower). So I've taken to shutting her out of the bathroom when I shower. She mashes herself against the bathroom door and gives me the...

Gordon's "come & try" herding day

Well, it was a nice (if a little spendy) walk in the country with ducks and sheeps. Miss Maddie shows almost ZERO interest in herding! LOL

    Picky eating SOLVED

Jo, her coat was beautiful before - now it's SPECTACULAR. Honestly, I took her to the coast a few weeks back, we were trying to walk down to the beach on the main street of the town...and I kid you not, I couldn't go half a block without someone stopping me to exclaim over her!!

    Picky eating SOLVED

Don, I really can recommend trying her on a raw food diet. Maddie went from ultra picky and finicky to "breakfast mommy breakfast please now breakfast yum yum yum gobble lick all finished". Every time.

    11-year-old sheltie vomiting after breakfast

If you can spend a bit of money (less than $20, probably) you could maybe try a bowl designed to slow down eating? Kong makes them, here's a link to one they sell at pet stores (it's a PetsMart link, but lots of places have them, no particular endorsement intended) Edit: I note that you asked...

Gordon's "come & try" herding day

Fantastic! What wonderful pictures - he is clearly in his element and loving every minute of it. :) I have Maddie scheduled for a herding instinct trial this coming Sunday - will try to get pictures and share (no matter how it turns out...lol)
