Is my husband nuts, or does anybody else do this too?

I'm kind of music obsessed so I sing all the time, including often when walking in the street. Naturally I sing all kinds of stuff at my dog. These songs can take many tunes, depending on what happens to be in my head. The words are mostly variations on nicknames we have for the dog, which...

    Dominance Hierarchy?

I think you're being a big over-sensitive if you think any sparks have flown. :wink2: I admit my first post might have seemed...curt. I probably didn't put the effort into it I could have. The link I gave you answers some of these questions. I think the point is that wolves don't dominate each...

    Dominance Hierarchy?

No one's expressed any offence, that I'm aware of, nor tried to administer any tongue lashing. Sorry if it seemed that way. The point isn't about the terminology but the concepts it represents. I was merely trying to express that if you are coming at your problem from the angle of dominance in a...

    Screen font size changed????

If it's just one place where the you're experiencing this I don't know how to explain it (maybe an admin knows something), but holding Ctrl and moving the mouse roller will change font size, like the above post says. You can achieve the same effect by using Ctrl in conjunction with + or -.

    Dominance Hierarchy?

Agree with this. The whole "dominance" thing is outmoded and desperately simplistic, propagated mainly these days by the likes of Cesar Milan and not by qualified dog behaviourists.

    You didn't warn me...

One thing which impressed me with Dylan when on his lead is that if he's heading towards the wrong side of a lampost or anything similar, he will automatically correct where he's going to avoid the lead getting caught. Maybe not the biggest deal in the world, but it's the first time I've walked...

Dog with a 1022 word vocabulary

I watched an excellent episode of Horizon (British documentary series) a while back called "The Secret Life of The Dog", which featured a Border Collie who also had large vocabulary. This dog was also able to retrieve toys just by being shown an identical toy. But the really impressive thing was...

    Crazy Time...Is this all shelties??

"Zoomies". :biggrin2: It tickles me to see behaviour traits I've noticed in Dylan are common enough to have nicknames. He hasn't done it since around 6 months old, but yeah, he used to get the "zoomies" quite a bit! We have an enormous footrest in the front room and he would just tear round and...

Do any of your shelties do this?

At night he normally sleeps on the floor by our bed, and he doesn't bring toys there. If it's the daytime and there's one of his soft toys on the floor in the front room (which there usually is) then he'll often sleep cuddled up to it.

Puppy broke his leg - what can we do in the meantime?

Poor pup, sorry to hear that. I'd suggest making sure to try and do anything you can to mentally stimulate him. I think this is important with clever dogs like Shelties anyway, but in your puppy's case it should be especially useful in breaking the tedium for him. There are various ways to do...

Hello -new to this site but not to Shelties

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the new family member.

Do you think I have enough...?

Measuring it on Google Earth I'm getting about 60 miles, although that's a straight line measurement which passes through the sea, so unless either of them has an amphibious car it'll probably be a bit more. Still, we're not a very big country.

    Meant to be Shelties?

That is a sweet story, but no, despite having a fairly romantic nature I don't think things are "meant to be". Sometimes it all falls into place and it seems preordained, and sometimes it doesn't. Confirmation bias means we tend to ascribe significance to the times when it does, and discount...

    Which food do you feed?

The protein content gave me pause initially, but I looked into it and anything vaguely authoritative I could find discussing the subject said there is absolutely nothing inherently wrong with a higher protein diet. However, I know different individual dogs do well on different foods, and I...
