Another ear Question

WHAT?!!!
CEMENT AND OIL?! I have never heard of this method and would tend to think that would do a whole heck of a lot more damage then fabric glue would......there is also the japanese tape method which is just a special tape used inside the ears...

Cement and oil is very popular with breeders in Aust but I too found it very messy.
I used chewing gum - so much easier than all the other methods. If you have more than one sheltie you may need to dab some diluted tea tree oil on the chewing gum so the other shelties don't keep nibbling on the pup's ears. You only need a little gum.

If you search on ears and gluing on the forum you'll find lots of threads on gluing ears.
I was taught to use fabric glue (Speed Sew) to glue ears. And remove with a bandage remover called Detachol.
Neither are irritants to the pups!. But my pup's ears are no testament to perfect gluing either!

Hello again everyone.I like the Q&As about ears and the different styles. Eveyones idea is ok but I've been puttin on sugar free gum for years and it works for me.Lucky the Sheltie that was my best buddy that is now sittin in a box right above my head won two ribbons right at eleven months old,used speed sew on him,glued the tip down to the inside hair at the front.Theres a substance that you can get at feed and seed stores called antiplogistine thats real good.Just put a little amount on the inside tip and that works to. On Dolly I used the chewing gum and at seven months it looking good so far.I'll put a current photo in my album.

I'd just go with the glue. I've used it on a lot of dogs, and you're not going to hurt him with it. It's not messy, and isn't all that much trouble to remove.
For less mess, you could use the moleskin method, and use a spray adhesive (the type made for cattle works well) instead of glue.
Really, I think it would be difficult to hurt your pup using the glue. You are glueing hair to hair, and hair has no feeling.
