Out last Sheltie, Tyler, lived for 15 years, but he had arthritis for his last few years. IF it is possible for a pup that young to have arthritis..we found Glucosamine to be very helpful for Tyler. It actually eased his pain a bit and helped with his mobility. I truly hope that your little one has only sprained or pulled something that will heal...however, if it is arthritis, it wouldn't hurt to try the Glucosamine. I even take it myself for joint pain and stiffness.

My previous "heart dog" was also named Tyler :sadsmile:. You are right though, Glucosamine and other types of vitamins/supplements work well in the arthritic pet! Thank you for the suggestion..
Tyler died during my daughter's final exams in high school. He was her soul mate and confidant...I don't know how she managed to get through it.
He was such a sweet dog and took care of my children from the time they were little...herding them and warning strangers to stay away. We have a beautiful picture of him running through a meadow when he was younger...he looks so happy. My daughter says he's running through meadows again now and not feeling any pain. :sadsmile:

Wow, your story of Tyler sounds so similar to ours! Our Ty Ty was diagnosed with prostate cancer the week of our kids final exams in HS also. He lived a year passed the diagnosis.
We gave him Dernmapet- Eicosaderm (sp?) and I worked wonders..I can try that with Megan and Toby also
, well...I guess a visit to the vet is in order for Megan as her right hind leg seems to be bothering her. It's incredibly odd though, she doesn't limp all the time, would still go bezerk to be able to run but we haven't taken her in awhile just to be safe. It seems to only happen when she jumps off the couch after napping or when she firsts gets up after laying down. But again, it's not all the time. It seems to get better, then comes back! 
I really hope it's not arthritis, but well deal with it if it is.

Around here, this would be a classic sign of Lymes Disease.
Nope, she has never had a tick on her, but just to be safe I will talk to the vet about it..

Deer ticks are tiny and nearly impossible to see. Our Bandit had Lyme when he was two and developed joint issues from it that lasted all his life. My vet treated him with glucosamine supplements, NASIDs when he needed them and we eventually had chiropractic and acuupunture treatments to keep him comfortable.
But it is possible for them to develop issues that young from something like Lyme so it's a good idea to test for it to rule it out.

Balm, comes in a tin and it states used for utters, but its great for pads of their paws. Rub it in, and wipe off the excess so it doesn't harm anthing they walk on.

Yes! It's called Bag Balm. You can get it in most feed stores, Tractor Supply, even in some drugstores now. Great stuff!
