Bacca bit me!!!!!

Sounds like resource guarding.
Ran into a bit of that with Treader's supper a while back. I began having Treader eat out of my hand and working for his food (Nothing in Life is Free) to give him the idea that I give him his food and I can take it away. I also did do some exercises with taking the food away sometime during his meals and stuff.
I'm, uh, not completely sure if that's all I should have done or if it depends on the situation or what (been a while since I read up on that stuff), but it did work for Treader. Treader's still supposed to work for his food, but I forget to make him sometimes.
 
I second what Michele said. Also, you were just away were you not? This could have added stress to the dogs too.

I think my being away, even for for only 1 week is the issue.

My housesitter is wonderful, but she does not know how to control the dogs. Seems like they lost their pack leader while I was away and reinvented themselves while I was gone.

I should have told my housesitter that the boys have to sit and stay before they get their food, for example. It's as if the monkeys took charge of the zoo while I was gone.

That being said, neither boy is starved because I've not started diets on them yet. So I'm not sure what would make them so possesive so suddenly.

Looks like its back to Behaviour 101! NiLIFF. Its hard to imagine that this even happened. Right now I'm in my bed with Bacca curled up next to me. Part of me says I should toss him on the floor and make him work to be allowed back up.
 
I was going to say that Michele said it well and so did you in the last post Barb. Hope your hand heals quickly. Once when Katie was a few months old we left she and Maggie with my parents for the weekend. The first night back I went to brush teeth and she went after me....same thing the next day with treats, then she and Maggie started getting into fights.
Come to find out my mom fed her in the bathroom and Maggie in the kitchen. I had to do NILF for a while to get her back on track but I always had food issues with those two.
Zak only got close to Maggie once when he was a young puppy to have her give him the evil look and a snarl and now he keeps a safe distance till she is done eating.
 
Barb,Chandler panics when I leave the house and when I come back from being on vaca. his panic is severe. He will fight to the death to get out the door with me if I go to leave. I think I posted a few months back his panic was getting so bad he had broken my skin when grabbing my arm when I was leaving. My vet did say if I hadn't gotten a tetnis recently I should get one. So if you are not current on your tetnis you may want to get one. Hope evrything works out.
 
A lot of dogs as they approach 2 yrs of age will start to act up again. Between 1.5-3yr is the final stage in social maturity were they will test for position in the pack. Actually not too uncommon by dog owners by 2yr old dogs to their vet. Sounds like a little resource guarding as well.

Diva just went though this and she became a total b**** with the other dogs. She and Ember even had a few words and she challenaged Justice who promptly put her back into her place. The dust seems to have settle now with Diva in the middle postion, Justice still on top, Ember on the bottom. Bock still has his puppy license but he is a leader type so I doubt he'll be happy on the bottom.

I think NILIF is a great idea. Fixed Diva.

Adolescents are adolescents. Beckon gets all snarly with me when I groom him. But I insist he maintain his manners. Bacca just caught you by surprise. Take heart -- this, too, shall pass.

But sorry to hear that :wink2: As you know I am not a fan of his (although I used to be) I know that many real dog trainers aren't either, neither is the Human Society. Please do be super careful using Caesar's methods... He has impeccable timing and lots of experience and he always gets bitten anyhow... some of his stuff works but it is always just a quick fix and WILL get dogs more frustrated down the road.
 
Hopefully your thumb heals ASAP. Possibly his mouth was faster then your hand, but not meaning to put a puncture in you.

I would just gate him off the next time your cleaning up.
