Hi all,

I am considering buying a Sheltie pup, and found a lovely little puppy with an awesome personality from a reputable breeder close to where I live.

I do have a question - this pup is an 8 week old bi blue merle. He has blue eyes, and a pink nose. Does the pink nose turn black as the puppy ages?

Sorry if this is a silly question!

Thank you so much for any replies!

It's fairly common for blues at that age to have an all- or partially-pink nose. Usually it all goes to black by they time they're a year old; sometimes it stays mostly or partially pink. :smile2:

Yep, young puppies have pink noses....and sometimes a merle will keep a partially to all pink nose.

Check out Michele's double merle girl Mia......all merle, so all pink nose...

My Ember had quite a bit of pink on her nose at 7-8weeks. Completely filled in by 4 months. Here is picture of her at 7 wks.

Ember is the bi blue in my avatar. That pictures was taken this summer at 6 yrs old.

Most blues(both bi and blue merle) have pink noses when they are born. Most fill in completely. Some do not. You will not know if it won't until it doesn't happen.

I have a Sable Merle, and he had some pink splotches in his nose when we first met him (6 weeks). The breeder told us they would fill in, and so they did. By 18 weeks, the pink splotches were gone. It was a gradual process. Almost imperceptible. Fortunately, we were taking progress photos every 2 weeks, so by comparing photos we were able to clearly see that, yes, the pink splotches were definitely shrinking!

At what age does the nose usually get filled in by? Domino is a bi-blue and he has alot of pink on his nose....he is 3 1/2 years old so I am guessing if it was going to fill in it would have happened by now??
